TSA Agents

Seriously, there must not be many requirements to become one of these guys. Was in the Atlanta airport yesterday I have to tell you, they are the most mix and match group of people I've ever seen. One was a half-witted middle aged dude who talked like like some sort of weird robot, another was a geeky computer nerd looking dude, one guy had a really thick Caribbean accent, and another was a old black blues singer looking guy with two inch thick sunglasses. I just don't know how they could prevent us from terroist attacks.

Do you like molesting people? You're hired!

Very easy to land a gig with them. When they attempt to do there job is pretty funny to watch.

TSA are fricking losers who couldn't be in a position of real authority.

Illusion of safety. I'm shocked there haven't been more inside jobs with TSA agents involved.

I've never had a bad experience with them
I wear an insulin pump so I have to get the full service when I fly. Technically my pump can go through the scanners but I don't like to risk it when I'm traveling
Everyone of them has been extremely respectful and kind. Are they the smartest folks around? Nah. But for the most part seem okay to me. I've never been held up too long and they have always been very accommodating

They are what you get at their pay level, just like cops, teachers and any other employee.
Shitty thankless jobs with poor pay do not attract the best and brightest, most TSA agents are former security guards who found a job with meager benefits and just a bit over what the mall was paying.

They remind me of temps. Same vibe.

Considering the very wide linguistic assortment, what exactly does a Caribbean accent sound like?

So do I. Used to have to get my fingers swabbed like I was the damn Unabomber until I got PreCheck. No problems since then. The old school metal detector doesn't detect the pump.
I'll suggest PreCheck, or Global Entry (GE includes Pre) to anyone in this thread. If you fly more than 2-3 times a year it is life changing. $100, good for 5 years, and some credit cards even reimburse you the fee. I'll never not have it from here on.

Once I got pulled out of line in customs in Atlanta and they grilled me for a solid 45 minutes. At one point they said "Look, we know for a fact you're up to something, just come clean now before it gets worse." (I was coming back from a university trip). Finally after the 3rd time I showed them homework for my classes they reluctantly let me go.
They also had "no cell phone" signs posted on the far wall perpendicular to the lines of people so no one really saw them when they came in.
The people there were fricking assholes. They asked one old lady (who was looking down at her phone) "ma'am, can you read? Yeah? Then what does that sign say over there?" The sign was 40 feet away behind the desks under the arrival/departure screens.
Bunch of shitheads down there.

It's like PC run amok. It seems like the mix of employees is more important than the function, with a huge dose of 'knowing somebody' in order to get the job. Some of them seem competent and some couldn't tie their own shoes.
The inspection, how damn stupid to make an 80 year old obviously harmless couple take off their shoes just because everybody else does.

I refer to it as security theatre. The airlines should be responsible for security screening via private companies and get the bloated arse backwards government out of it.

Last time I flew the agents were cool. I would get annoyed after a few hours of having to tell hundreds of people the same thing.
Plus I screwed to and forgot to remove my cross necklace when I dropped my keys in the basket, but they didn't get mad.
