That's what I don't get .. They seem excited when a major storm is headed this way .. and pout when one dissipates ..

Danny has to be one of the quickest major hurricane to open wave while over water storms in recorded history.

I don't know about the Atlantic but this seems to happen in the E. Pac pretty often. Danny was the 26th major hurricane in a row to not produce a US landfall (as a major) and generated the least amount of ACE of any major, since reliable records have been kept. Danny was pretty straight forward, short window to do something and then a one way trip to oblivion starting at 50W. The only real uncertainty with Danny was what it would do during that brief window.

98L is a bit more complicated A large wave with an elongated rotation that may or may not be closed off at this time. It should be slow to develop over the next few days and is moving quickly towards the islands. As heights drop across the the EC we will see the ridge pump up a bit over the top of 98L and keep it trucking. Beyond the next few days... just look at the changes in the models across the US at the H5 level from run to run in the 7 to 10 day range.

One take away form the model runs today, there are more solutions that bring a week system into the Gulf than there were 24 hrs ago. However, all that could change as the models try to pin down the med-range pattern.

I think some people in here just get amp'd up about the excitement, not so much enjoyable, but the slight fear and adrenaline rush of it.

Hopefully no one here wants a almost Katrina repeat, but a couple day vaca and time off work is what I think some people wish for. Nice storm with no lives lost.

People who get giddy over potential storms either do not live near the coast, have never lived through a bad one, or were too young to remember much about the last one.

For people who were out of their homes for months and lost everything, this is not a fun time. My GF is on edge from August until the first cool snap.

I don't think many people are actually "giddy" but maybe there are some sickos out there. Regardless, nature cares not of our emotions. I lived through a bunch of storms including Andrew and worked Katrina & Rita. I can do without repeating any of that again, for sure.
