Trooper hits 2 horses in Pointe Coupee, killing one

Trooper Bryan Lee, a spokesman for the agency, said a trooper traveling in a department-issued SUV at the intersection of La. 416 and Rougon Road struck and killed one of two horses roaming on the road.
The trooper, who was not identified, was not injured, Lee said. The vehicle was being towed.
Lee said the horse’s owner will be notified and the reason behind the animals being allowed to wander is being investigated. The trooper is not expected to be found at fault in the incident, Lee said.
