It should not.

But my point is that three trees for $1700 ain’t paying the bills for legitimate saws, gear, fuel, maintenance, et alia.

its whatever more profit than sitting on the sofa for the day.

I have 3 dead trees close to the house. Been dreading getting quotes. Young Hispanic man approached me a week ago claiming he’d bring all three down for 1700$. Sounded like a steal. When asked if he had insurance, he hesitated then said yes, non-convincingly. He said he will be sending picture of his insurance to me when he gets home. Should I trust it?

If he sends a picture and you verify it with the state insurance commission what could go wrong? Other than him having the basic limits and doing damage that far exceeds them its probably an acceptable risk. If it can't be verified whatever happens happens....may save $7k, may cost you $700K.

that doesn't verify anything. this in no way means that the policy hasn't been since cancelled for non payment. Most of these policies are financed and could be cancelled at any time during year for non pay.

100%

Same with a COI which could be altered anyways

There’s no way to know. I was just saying if this dude is gonna do it (he is) then at minimum he should try and see something

$3500, $1600, and $800 - for removal of the same exact tree. I chose the $800 quote, it took them a few weeks to get to me, but did the job well.

Great job holding out. Probably should've been $400 though if that. These guys are wanting to make a career out of running a chainsaw. Sorry baw, thats not how things work.

in La, is WC required to work for a homeowner? Are all these two chucks-in-a-truck lawn services carrying WC? Are they required to by law?

Only having three fingers on the hand of a tree man is not unexpected.

I had one removed a few years ago. I think I paid $3200.

The 3 quotes I got were $2000, 3800, 3200 IIRC. The 2k quote was basically a "two baws and a saw" type of outfit, and I was pretty sure they didn't have insurance. This was a house-hitter, so I didn't want to take that risk.

There were 5 guys IIRC. They had a boom truck with a crane, another large truck for removal and afterwards a stump grinder. They did a good job and only left a pile of sawdust.

That type of job isn't going to cost you $500. We aren't exactly talking about laying a pine down in an open field.
