I really wonder how some of you behave overseas (or anywhere for that matter). Never had a bad experience with the Dutch other than some homeless a-hole

I worked with the Dutch for over 25 years. They are arrogant AF.

Ok, but does that translate to rude interactions to tourists overseas? I mean, Americans are arrogant too.

I was never a tourist in the Netherlands, only was there on business so I concede that point.

Wife is in Iceland on a school tour with youngest boy. She says tour guide has spent two days sniping the US. I told her to remind her tomorrow who is the customer. Tell us about glaciers and shite, keep politics out of it please.

It's Italian but it became popularized as a main dish here. If you went into any restaurant in Italy outside of Naples in the 50s and 60s and ordered a pizza they would look at you like you ordered a bologna sandwich or a grilled cheese.

It's also kind of weird that people talk about modern Italian food as "Old World" and handed down by centuries of grandmas, etc. Pasta and tomato sauce really wasn't a thing there until the 1800s. They had a Mediterranean diet with lots of seafood, dates, olives, etc. Hell, before the Columbian Exchange nobody outside of a few remote villages in South America had ever even seen a tomato, potato or several other food items. Eating was highly localized for most of human civilization.

The tomato becomes less prevalent the further north you go in Italy. Tuscany is about wild boar ragu which is delicious. The Piedmonte region is all about the white truffle and risotto. The Dolomites are a blend of Italian and Germanic foods. It’s an extremely diverse food culture.

I would kill to have an opportunity to try the real deal spaghetti and meatballs in Italy. Not that quick shite they cook in this part of the world. Maybe one day.
I hate to break it to you, but American Italian is better than Italy Italian.

I know I don’t speak Italian, but I’m very polite. Everyone kind of seems disinterested when we speak to them at all. Just getting weird vibes the first day.

That just Europe in general. It used to piss me off but my wife (no pics) explained they think differently over there. I reset my brain when I visit now and I'm fine.

They know most of this country hates what’s going on so they really aren’t so bad unless you’re walking around with a MAGA hat, in which case you deserve whatever happens to you.

Not sure about now, but in the last 7 years Turks, Curacao, Prague, Iceland, Cambodia X2, Costa Rica and Thailand most speak some English and have treated me well. I am more focused on the US travels in the last year.

I bring packs of Louisiana or Crystal hot sauce with me every time i travel. I need spice on my food.
French food didn't need seasoning really. The Dutch food i had to drench in the sauce. I also carry Magic redfish seasoning.
