My wife's cousins used to host a family egg hunt that included several plastic eggs with money in them, ranging from $1 to a single $100 bill.

Grownups would tear around like animals, knocking kids aside, pawing under bushes, and going apeshit. We just sat back and watched.

One year they decided to draw the plastic/money eggs from a basket, so that grownups would not have an advantage over the kids.

I was going to pass, but they insisted everyone draw an egg. Everybody started opening the eggs and yelling, "I got $10!" "20 bucks!" and the like. Finally, someone said, "Who got the $100?"

You should have heard the cussing (GD's included) when I slowly held it up. That I was the only person there who did not give a shite made it oh so special.

Now we tell the story every Easter.

Instead, parents want their kid to be the one to get the top prizes or want to be able to say their kid was the one who did some irrelevant shite because people are fricking petty. What the hell are they teaching their kids by doing this?

Used to be tee ball, now travel ball. Living their pathetic dreams through their kids. My kids would love to go to things like this but I would never take them because some parents dont deserve kids. Whats sad is the kids dont have a clue whats going on.

They do it up here too. Had a budy talk me in to taking my family to one when my kids were little. Had to pretty much yank both of them back so they wouldn't get run over by adults. Damn I hate people. Hope they choke on that shite.

And get aids

We used to do our community's egg hunt at the local parks and rec on a baseball field. We live in a middle to upper income area but the trash from the rural areas of the county and adjacent counties would show up in mass to turn it into a 3rd world scramble for survival goods. You would think you were in some village in Uganda handing out boxes of food. We had to start getting about 25 local men to put on yellow safety vests to form a barricade at the fence and the gate where the kids entered. Then the Neanderthal parents started coaching their kids on being bullies to "get theirs" as 10 eggs per hunt had a ticket for a free Easter basket full of Dollar Store toys. Maybe $10 worth of junk. They were silver or gold eggs. Damn parents would have binoculars to spot the special eggs and coach their kids to run as fast as possible to those eggs upon entering. These were 3-5 year old kids. Two years ago, a fight broke out between 2 moms whose kids arrived at the egg at the same time and one kid pushed the other kid down as he was about to pick it up. More meth head type parents were arguing at the prize table. We just quit having the free event after that year.

With such a crowd and in that area, they should have known better and had police and guards ready.

Ours are well organized. The big one at one of the high schools divides kids up by ages and puts them in different areas. Seems to work very well

The free event

There you go. I hardly ever go to free public events. They bring out all the trash. It's just not worth it.

This. I was just talking about this the other day with a coworker who is from Ponchatoula and seems to think the entire world lives for the Strawberry Festival. I told her I have lived in S LA my whole life and have never been to a free festival because of the type of people the word "free" attracts. I'll gladly pay an entrance fee to not have to deal with trash all day.

First off, those are the unbeliving Easter egg hunters there. Instead of learning about how to treat others, they are out looking to steal from another. Second or was free.
