FIFY, The sawzall was too good for it. You should have killed it with fire.

That iteration was almost as bad the intent at FoMoCo to use the same platform as Probe for the Mustang.

I would repair the Suburban and keep it, but if you're set on getting something different I would set an absolute maximum limit at $13,500 (the $8,000 net profit from your Suburban plus the $5,500 it would cost you to continue owning the Suburban if you kept it instead).

You'd still almost always come out ahead by keeping the Suburban but you're probably not throwing away too much money by getting $12,000 for it, paying off the $4,000, and spending up to $13,500.

AYC, you don't think?

Looks like they hold value pretty well, not as good as trucks, but still good.

Sorry didnt see this earlier. To me, the GM's (and almost every manufacturer) went through some dark years during the economic downturn. There really was no advancement in the vehicles outside of AFM (8cyl running on 4cyl to save fuel) but that was/is sort of a flop. With the GM's, it is my opinion that only the fully loaded, optioned out models will hold value (Z71, Z66, LT, and LTZ).

we have 4 kids plus pull a camper with it.

i just replaced the brakes and alternator and now I am looking at the harmonic balancer. going to need some tires soon.

just little things but they all add up over time. car is in great mechanical shape.

practically stole it a few years ago with 50k miles on it

Harmonic balancers can fail?

The rest of the stuff you mentioned sounds normal, IMO .
If the engine pulls good and it shifts smoothly, I'd still vote to keep it.

Apparently the rubber goes bad on them....I've only heard of changing the harmonic balancer on really old vehicles.

That suburban should still have 100,000 miles of life without anything major.

The rubber in the HB will go bad, but it's not hard to change, you will need a puller to get it off, but you and a friend can do that job and there are you tube vids to help you and that there will save you some cash. And my vote is keep it as well it should be good for another 100k miles.
