We did the whole baseball thing with our oldest son from 4 years old until 7th grade. Only 2 years of “Allstar” travel team. Did private lessons one year. It was ridiculous.
We aren’t doing it with our second son. We decided to wait until he’s old enough to play on a basketball team at RedStorm, (Third grade). then he’ll play basketball on the 5th grade team at his school. I don’t think they try out for basketball at school until 6th grade. He wants to play football too. I think that starts in 4th at his school. My guilt of not putting him in baseball is likely why I’m listing all that out.
Our oldest son who did the baseball thing for 10 years and played football through his sophomore year thinks we are bad parents for not putting our 2nd son in baseball.
Baseball bores me to tears, and my days of chasing toddlers around at ballparks are over. I’ve done it for 16 years. This year i chased our 5th kid around football stadiums and volleyball games. After the last volleyball game this year I thought to myself, “It’s official! I’m officially done with chasing a toddler at any type of sporting event, ever!”
When our second son is old enough to start basketball at redstorm, our toddler will be 4 and a half - totally manageable.
Anyway, you say you wont travel. But If the coaches think he’s good enough and ask him to, it’ll be hard to tell him no. My son liked it at first. but after the second travel summer, he was over it.

Jesus Christ, I cannot believe I just upvoted one of your post and actually agree with you.

That’s why my son quit soccer to focus on baseball
He was part of The Fire for 3 years but also was playing baseball and it got to a point where he had to choose because of the overlap.
He chose wisely

You can say that again. Between the end of the spring season, summer indoor, and tryouts for next year, I think my daughter will have about 3 weeks "off" before team training camp kicks off in late July

My son is quitting club to play school sports, I’m both happy and sad about that. I think he has a great chance to make the regional ODP team as a starter...but that would drastically change our lives since his development would have to be first and foremost.
Says he wants to be the QB of the Jr High team. He’s never played a down of football. He did kick a 50 yd field goal in front of the coach last Saturday, so there’s that.

No, we’re not going to push him into travel ball
Their parents/fans/coaches have become unbearable on a few of their teams. It is laughable. They have every advantage, they really should be beating the crap out of teams from towns of 2000.

Been doing it, albeit not at this level, for 5 years. Last 3 have been non-stop.

Big mistake. Stay with the club.

Soccer is kind of a crap shoot. Baseball has the better sgroup anyway and honestly you dont need better T-ball than YMCA. Start looking for good leagues when it goes to kids pitch.

He’s starting at a 7th-12th grade all boys school, he wants more out sports than medals for weekend tournaments.

Just wanna say my youngest is in coaches pitch. He hasn’t hit the ball the entire year, something like 0-25. Yesterday was first playoff game and he got game winning hit. Of course I was at work but wife recorded it and coach called me after the game. Was a cool thing.

I realize that but colleges aren’t looking at high schools like are clubs such as the one you’re son is a part of.
At least that’s how it’s like around here.
High level clubs have the best coaches and the top talent. That’s what the scouts are looking at. They’re definitely not looking at high school soccer

What kind of schools do you want your kid to go to play soccer? I’m not really concerned with scholarships at this point, and the clubs around here send kids to schools I already have enough saved for.
I think he has a good shot at playing D1 as a kicker in football.
I really wanted him to go to the regional ODP camp to see if he could make the travel squad, but he really wants to go out for QB. It will all depend on who else shows up. He’s already impressed the coach kicking it, he just needs to show his wheels and arm strength.

What's wrong with the YMCA?
It's T-BALL
