I keep trying to tell people that the State Legislature passed a law to get rid of the speed traps in La.
Law now states that revenue from tickets written 10mph (or less) above the speed limit now goes to the State.... 10mph or over the speed limit now goes to the shite little town.
Stopped towns like Washington and Maurice from writing 32 in a 30 tickets... revenue goes to State. Not worth their time anymore.

An Audit done by the state showed they were keeping damn near all of the money generated for writing tickets for under 10 mph over the speed limits on the interstate.

It hasn't stopped them one bit. They write tickets on that overpass just as hard and fast as they ever did.
In case anyone is interested, it costs $170 to do 80 in a 75 in their "town".

I got a ticket going 79 in the 75. And I had cruise set at 77 but going up the overpass my rpms increased so my speed went up slightly. $150 ticket. screw them

It definitely is. I travel there once a month. It is 75 right before the exit to Washington. If you are heading towards Lafayette it goes back to 70 before the truck stops on the Ville Platte exit.

I'm well aware of the law. I'm sure they are too. A law is only good if people choose to follow it. The state can't do anything except withhold state funds from them until they pay what they owe. They make way more in traffic fines than they get from the state.

And you would be wrong. That law applied to cities WITHOUT home rule charters. Washington has a home-rule charter.
Both bills mentioned in this articleaimed at defeating them last year failed.
