I don't know but I took my daughter to watch her friend's soccer game last week, and the soccer moms at the park were way hotter than the baseball/softball moms.

Tournament Ball - you have to win to advance to higher levels of competition
Travel Ball - you have to participate to be able to play in one of the 673827 "world series"

I've been asked to coach a few of these teams over the last couple years. But since I stopped playing ball, I am really missing the game.
Thinking of coaching one of these teams. They are offering a little money, and a travel allowance. I have no kids, no wife... so I'm thinking I may do it.

Same difference. You travel to tournaments...
My son is in a couple of travel leagues, which goes against what I just said, but they’re regional and the only way to play the best teams. Tournaments got boring.

Most decent size cities have several parks within the area that host competitive tournaments - you stay local and play.
Travel ball - small town teams that have to go to tournaments or over the top parents who get a kick out of driving every weekend to play. In the Memphis area there are only 2 organizations that actually travel a lot, the rest play local.

Baseball doesn’t have big clubs that dominate competition in a city? In soccer there’s LA Fire in NOLA, BRSC in BR...so to play teams at that level it’s effectively travel. Play them in tournaments and in league play for the different ‘National’ organizations.

USSSA dominates baseball in the south..different levels of teams
Major - 13yr olds with facial hair who are fully grown
AAA - good ball players, with a mix of the above
AA - average ball players
In states where the rankings are done correctly, typically your Major team may need to travel if playing every weekend...however, there are usually enough teams coming in town to play
In the past Louisiana had a bunch of teams that were classified as major - but in reality were AAA / AA
