It's a shite city. I'm not sure why anyone goes there for anything other than to get liquored up and see some tits.

I'd venture to say that most people who visit New Orleans for the first time leave disappointed.

They were women, likely with a good bit of money, from the midwest.

What makes you say that? Their extravagant spending habits on vacation?

The fact that they're black, doesn't make it really any more awful of a hood for them to be walking around in after midnight, or make them any more less likely to be sitting ducks there.

The fact that they're black might make them a lot more confident and comfortable in that area, not knowing the Nola hood does not discriminate.

So maybe they did a little research and thought they'd be fine.

Have a hard time placing this blame on AirBnb. Its very, VERY easy to do a little research online.

ETA:

Holy shite did you see that house! That is not on AirBnb. That is on the people who saw that listing and decided that was the spot for them.

Ehhh, they had enough money to fly from the midwest to new orleans for a weekend and rent a car. I'm not saying they're rolling in dough, just that they probably have enough to be seen as a decent target by people in that hood.

Yeah, that's sort of my point. I think we are talking around each other here.

Maybe.

But did you see the listings on that street? Holy crap.

I think you misconstrued my initial point as "blaming" AirBnb. My only point was, I think it's amazing that people actually have a vehicle these days to get away with renting out what 5-6 years ago was likely a crack house, due to probably some glossy online pics.

I think it's brilliant, actually, not something worthy of criticism.

It really is a shell of itself and until they get a handle on the crime it will continue to get worse.

I've done my fair share of drunken French Quarter time but as I get older I realize how bad it has gotten and it has gotten a lot worse.

It is amazing some of the places I hear Tourists renting air B&Bs in the city. They think they are staying in some awesome trendy area like Treme but have no idea it is a really sketchy arse place to stay.

If you saw this house for rent on AirBNB, would you click "reserve"?

I wish someone could find the listing. I can assure you, it won't look like anything close to the straight up hood this is.

Saw an interview with one of the alleged victims. She claims the guy was dressed in a black hoodie and black pants and demanded their money and the keys to "that flashy car". I'm having a hard time believing he was using the term "flashy car".

If only more people felt this way.

And staying in an area like that? They are lucky to have gotten out alive. How stupid can you be?

It's a unique city. While I certainly wouldn't want to hang my hat there, New Orleans does offer a lot that very few, if any, can offer. I've had some of the best dining and drinking experiences there. I've partaken in the some of the best "parties" there. Honestly, I can't imagine a better venue to host a major event.

If you're looking for a place to relax and unwind...New Orleans wouldn't be my first choice. If you're looking for a place to enjoy some spectacular meals and have endless libations...New Orleans is the best.

We agree. The people are stupid. Not hard to research an area, do google street view, etc.

Nice touch on how she captured the interior with the soccer match playing on the TV.
