This is one of those lines that they make a huge arse deal about because there's no significant thing for weather people to focus on this time of year.

Will be a nothing burger and they'll look stupid.

Don't ever, ever be this guy.

Got a friend in Bremen, Kentucky who lost their infant nephew when Tornado hit their house. Both parents in hospital but expected to survive.

It always hurts to hear stuff like that. My condolences to them, and I will say a prayer for the family.

I have a friend that lives in Edwardsville IL and works at the now-mostly-demolished Amazon facility there. She's a delivery driver and said the tornado tore the building's garage apart, so pretty much all of the delivery vans got lunched. Not sure what she's going to do...

What is unprecedented is the increasing frequency and severity.

Winter outbreaks are quite normal for the South. There was an F4 that hit Tuscaloosa back on December 16, 2000 as part of a 24-tornado outbreak. And, as has already been noted, there were a pair of F5 tornadoes that hit the United States in December of 1953 and 1957 respectively.

It is likely the death toll will rise there. Just terrible that with all of our advancements in technology, there still really isn’t much that can be done to give enough warning before a tornado.

Unfortunately some tornadoes are just so powerful it’s quite a challenge to get everyone access to the type
Of shelter it would require to keep them safe

And then of course there’s the not so small group of ppl who are simply too stupid to protect themselves

I was just a small child then and wouldn't have remembered that far back. Did the CBS Evening News punctuate the reporting of these events with discussion of global warming's impact back then?

Just heard a prelim rating of EF3 in Monette. Naturally, the NWS said that could change.

It takes a structural engineer to help figure out if its over EF3. I suspect Mayfield will be an initial EF3, and it will obviously rate stronger at the end.

Yep. That's where Tim Marshall and others come in. Post-April 27 they just took him on a multi-day tour of Mississippi and Alabama. I'm pretty sure he and his team still does most of the high-end surveys.

Always interesting to see what a given hodograph can produce. I believe real-time hodographs (or as close to real-time as we can get) is the cutting edge of tornado-genesis research.

This is from @AndrewElswickWX on Twitter:

NCM can't catch a break. First the sinkhole and now hit by a tornado.

NCM Motorsports Park (The racetrack)

Apparently the Museum itself didn't sustain heavy damage so the artifacts there are safe.

The SPC was pretty damn accurate on this one:

Compare that to the original Day 3 Outlook:

I want to say for future reference that if you have useful video or photos of ongoing severe weather anywhere in the country and you want to Tweet it and tag James Spann, that is fine. However, if you are in Illinois and you have video of an ongoing tornado, for the love of God, don't Tweet at Spann and only Spann. That does no one a bit of damn good, and everyone knows you are just trying to get Spann to retweet your video.

Include Spann if you want, but first tag your local NWS office and local weather outlets, then throw Spann on at the end. If Spann happens to be asleep, on vacation, or tipsy from one too many margaritas at the local Mexican joint, your seven followers on Twitter seeing your tweet isn't doing much.

No, because they weren't pushing a bullshite political agenda on the ruin and death of unfortunate victims back then.
