It’s an Ulnar Collateral Ligament tear and an impacted/fractured Phalynx at the Metacarpal joint of the thumb.

Holy shite, I knew the “opposable thumb” was important, but it’s crazy how much it’s used for that you don’t even notice until it’s fricked up. Buttoning buttons, putting on pants, belts, etc. Driving, holding a beer, typing on your phone... like I said, holy shite that hand’s thumb function is SUPER important.

Had surgery on Monday where the doc took a segment of a tendon in my wrist to replace it and now I’m splinted and bandaged hating my life at the moment.

TL;DR? Thumbs are important. Surgery sucks.

I did something similar my last year at LSU... had my right hand in a cast from fingers to elbow to imobilize my thumb and wrist.

Yeah, it's a pain, but I did get really good at doing things left-handed, and still do some things lefty that I did righty before.

Yeah, I tore my UCL... How long was his rehab? I obviously won’t have access to his type of therapists, but just curious if you know

Coronavirus gonna make it fall off. That's okay they say that the pain isn't as bad when it falls off.

His was injured doing something manly. Yours was probably done while arranging some flowers, fluffing some fabric or washing your VW bug...

Get well soon, slugger.

Again, right handed... thank the lord. One of the first things my SO asked was “Right or left hand? Am I gonna have to wipe your arse?”

Had the same injury when I was a teenager and it's still the most painful injury I've endured. Mine didn't require surgery, or maybe it was so long ago there wasn't a surgery option for it. At any rate, I was in a cast for like 8 weeks, then almost 2 months of physical therapy to get it back to normal.

And yes, it makes you appreciate the importance of opposable thumbs.

I am right-handed, and learned to wipe lefty. It's not that hard to do.

I found the most awkward activity was brushing my teeth with my non-dominant hand. Felt like a rahtard.

Same here. Getting a bullet through the forearm (mind you, it was only a .22) hurt WAY less than this.

Every time you do anything with your hand(s) you instinctively try to use your thumb (if necessary) so the pain persists for what seems like forever... I injured it about 2 weeks ago yesterday and it’s been hell

"Gamekeepers Thumb", or "Skier's Thumb". Was one of five broken thumbs for me. Tore the ligament and broke off part of the metacarpal playing softball. Played the rest of the game so that I could get one more at bat because I knew it was season-ending. You are certainly right that you don't notice how much use a part gets until it hurts.
