Usually stays around 55-60 BPM. When I sleep it can drop into the 40s.
One interesting thing about my heartbeat is due to my mechanical heart valve you can hear it. It sounds like a watch tic. I hear it literally all the time. I have to go to sleep with a TV on or I’ll lay there listening to it all night. If I’m in a quiet room or my heart is beating hard, people around me hear it. People mistake it for my watch all the time until they notice I’m wearing an Apple Watch.

Is this for real?
My current resting is 65 bpm. When I first get up in the AM it's 60.
I wear a HR monitor when running and training using HR instead of pace. If I really push during intervals or a tempo run, I can get it to 185 bpm. This has steadily increased over the two years that I have been running. Early on when I started, I couldn't get over 180.
My recovery run pace is 140 bpm. Regular pace is about 160 bpm. Race pace is about 175 bpm. Sprint pace is 180+.
It is as much (or more) about age as it is about fitness. An average 40yo will max out at about 180 but a 20yo will be around 200 max. You can hold it off with fitness but it is going to drop over time. Fitness can add 5-15 bpm as you get past 30 and up to about 55 (won't do much at 20) but recovery time will increase significantly.
As you get older the ion channels degrade in the outer membrane of your sinoatrial myocytes and they literally can't recycle quick enough to produce the heart rates they did when you were younger. As a crude analogy imagine them like a capacitor that powers a flashbulb, when it is new it builds up charge quickly and can power the bulb at a fast rate, as it ages it degrades and requires longer to build up the charge required.

If someone invents a silent mech valve or a significantly longer-lasting biologic even their great-great-grandchildren would never have to works a day in their life.
