They're nice beaches and all but I don't get the hype. My mom lives there and I visit almost every year. Yeah, white sand is pretty but that's about all there is as far as scenery. Also hot as frick in the summer out of the water.
I'd agree with Florida panhandle because I think we're just talking about the beach. The sand and warm blue-green water. Having been out West many times, the mountains that surround the beaches are nice, but I don't consider it part of the beach. The water is meh as has been most of the sand I've been on. I haven't been down to San Diego though.

The beaches in the Florida panhandle is the answer.

Read through most of thread. Saw no mention of Siesta Key near Sarasota, Fl. Powder white soft sand. #1 imo. The only draw back is shallow water 'til about 20 yards out. The "scenery" is off the charts! /endthread

I do enjoy the beach, but it's crazy to me that more people don't make a trip to somewhere like Colorado, Montana, etc over the summer. Now going lay out on the beach with a screwdriver or a beer with some music playing is quite nice, just have a heavy preference toward mountains. Seems like most people choose mountains during the winter, when all there is to do is ski. Weird to me.
I like rafting but that's about all there is for me in the mountains during the summer. I usually make at least one trip there for that a year.
Would love to get into rock climbing but I feel like that's something you'd have to live there to get good at.
I love to ski so I'm fine that that's all there is to do in the winter.

Mountains, lakes, beach? Come on over to Southern California. Come all the way down to san diego and you'll like the people much more than other parts of the state.

I agree that the beaches out west are not great for swimming. My comment wasn't really about this thread because he asked for the best in the lower 48. The 30A area is definitely on the short list for that. But, almost daily, I see people on this site declare them the best beaches in the world. I strongly disagree with that.

Beaches themselves-Florida somewhere
The beach towns themselves-southern California in a landslide

in South Carolina it's Edisto Beach but I really did enjoy Singer Island, Florida.
Hmmm... I might have a job opportunity over there soon. That's good to hear that it's nice.

The world? No way. The tourist zone beaches in Cancun are better than the Florida panhandle. The sand grains are smooth, soft tiny ovals. The water is a bit prettier and consistently so. And that's just a couple hours by plane.

A few years ago we flew to Fort Myers and then drove back to Louisiana, stopping at different beaches every night. Hit up Sanibel, Siesta Key, Clearwater Beach, Cape San Blas, St. George Island, Mexico Beach, Destin, & Orange Beach. The one we chose as best was Destin.

Deep South culture tells you to get burnt on your rented lawn chair, and then take a family picture wearing a white shirt. The ocean is much more than a rented condo.
The mountains are great during the summer. Full of adventure. I'd say explore more East coast beaches to appreciate nature and get away from giant hotels.

My buddy's grandparents have a place on a private beach in islamorada, never seen anything quite like that.

Playa Linda in Florida. Part of the National Seashore just north of Cape Canaveral. Zero development, pristine beach, not many people. For some reason most people would rather be on top of each other at Cocoa Beach.

It make trips to the Appalachians and Ozarks a more likely option.
