It's like having a kid in college for 13-14 years and when they are done you still get to pay for that too

About $8k year. Was paying $20k in Nola.
The $20k was worth it.
We are relocating and will be closer to $12k for Catholic. Most of the private schools in the area are $25-$30k. Idk people with 3-4 kids do it.

Don’t forget the donations you must give in order to get the parishioner rate for the Catholic schools

It's finally coming to an end but it has been absolutely brutal.
So you're paying all that money for them to go to high school and you're not going to pay for them to go to college?

IIRC you could write off up to 10k on state taxes so it was about a $600/yr benefit. Thank you for your contributions

Lots of people are house poor in this country because the choice is pay $15-20k for private school every year or pay an extra $1k on the mortgage note every month for a house out of your range so your kid can go to the only good public school in the state.

Yes. In Mississippi, the best prep schools are $15k a year. Which is a relative bargain. On the east coast they're $45k.
But the kids make a 32 on their ACT and they get a free ride, including tuition, room, board, books, and a laptop.
So as soon as they're off to college I get a major raise.
It's an investment.

Paying about $24k in tuition and fees for private, catholic school in Lafayette for 3 of my kids. One in pre-k4, one in 1st, and one in 6th. Then have my youngest in daycare which is another $8500/year.
People who complain about expenses and send their kids to public school piss me off irrationally.

If anyone with kids in private or public schools think they are paying too much, wait until they go to college

What kid wants to live in a dorm for 4 years and not join a frat or sorority or get their own house or apartment
I can tell you dont have any kids in college

5k each with zero requirements toward any govt entity. It’s worth every penny.

Is there a decent private school under $20k in the US? Obviously religious schools (parochial) schools are cheaper because it’s sort of like sending your kid to the Neverland Ranch.

I don’t know what it is in New Orleans. Friend of mine is religious. He goes to church every week, was married in a church, and of course had his daughter baptized. All this took place at the same church so he was happy when his daughter was accepted into their school. It certainly pissed him off he was not considered a parishioner because he didn’t donate enough last year. Apparently being a parishioner has nothing about being a member of the faith community or family member in worship. It is all about a four letter word: cash. I guess Jesus Christ is an accountant.
