It only becomes an "equal rights" issue when you redefine what marriage means.
We have let people who never believed in marriage in the first place redefine it so they could turn it into an equal protection issue so that the courts would have to be on their side.
And for what purpose? The best intentions that could be ascribed are not worth redefining marriage. We could easily have given equal protection under the law to any two people who wanted it and would agree to be bound to each other without calling it marriage.
The worst intentions that could be ascribed are truer to what motivated the radicals that brought this about: they hate traditional institutions and marriage is the most traditional of them all.
And don't look for hatred of gays in me because you won't find it.
