re: Took my 2017 Ford F150 in to get engine light checked

I had one of those lights come up in a 2007 Tundra. I also had to replace the drive shaft at the same time and had about 75 K miles on the truck. Toyota fixed the check engine light problem as if the truck was in warranty. The repair would have been upwards of 2 thousand. The drive shaft did set me back over a grand though. Go Toyota! Sorry I don't remember what the repair was but they had to take the engine apart to repair it.

My light was on for 8 years and my current car it’s been on for about 3 years.
My ford lasted 17 years and 270,000+ miles.

Go to AutoZone, have them pull the code, Google the code and how to fix it yourself. It's potentially a really easy fix.
Better yet, buy a scan tool for yourself. They're only about $20-$30 on Amazon for a basic one.
Now autozone will tell you what part you need, not just the code.
OBD Fusion on Amazon connects via Bluetooth to your phone for about $30 and you can monitor your car while you're driving.

It's an ecoboost, isn't it?
Posted on 1/31/20 at 8:02 am to kywildcatfanone
The EcoBoost is now a better engine than the 5.0L. 2016 5.0 and newer are not the same motors. They changed from cast iron heads to a lighter metal, which leads to warping, which leads to oil loss, which eventually leads to a locked up motor. The 5.0L used to be the best regular size V8 on the market (I have a 2012 that is tough as nails), but they messed with it for the sake of weight and fuel economy. No one is buying a 5.0 for fuel economy, Ford should have realized that.

I think this started in 2018. I have a 2016 with cast iron heads on my 5.0 and the 6 speed. I think it was also when they went to the 10 speed that has issues as well.

They have a Bluetooth obd scan tool on Amazon for 100 bucks tells you everything and can clear any code.
