One of the crazy things with the disease is that your brain will do everything it can to make these memories and feelings hard to remember. My mind only wants to remember the good things about abuse which is totally fricked

My Neurosurgeon put me on this for nerve damage after a car accident. Made my blood pressure go up so I got off of it, but Be careful coming off of it, you have to wean off of it too or it can trigger seizures.

I’m not telling you that you HAVE to take suboxone. That’s not what I’m saying. I’m telling you from experience with 12 years clean is what I have done. I used subs for 2 months. Well 2 and a half. Then I tapered. My doctor was awesome and didn’t want maintenance. The decision is ultimately yours. You can try nothing or you can take something that is designed to help you come off. Whatever you can handle buddy. I’m not here to argue with random people on the internet about suboxone. To me, it saved my life. I was headed one of two places either in the ground or jail. And I didn’t want to go to either. I will always be an advocate of subs. But that’s me personally.

Rooting for ya, West. Planning to shut down my current 80mg/day hydrocodone habit early next year—for pretty much the same reasons you cite.
I’m targeting dropping 10mg/month off my daily dosage. I’m down from 150mg to 80mg already, but this is where it starts getting rough (based on prior experiences).
Godspeed to you, and know that there’s a lot of pretty decent people here on TD and a couple of scumbags who are all rooting for ya.

I was in your shoes 30+ yrs ago and put myself in treatment when I was 19. Been sober ever since living one day at a time. Sadly I've buried a 1/2 dozen friends who just couldn't kick the habit.
I'm more than willing to listen or share my experience, strength, and hope... holler if you (or anyone else) needs some direction.

Yes. You sound a lot like my brother. Years ago he said many of the same things you have said in this thread. Today he's a needle using heroin addict. It can get MUCH better and you can be sober or you can continue to slide. I don't know how many times I have heard "I'm better than heroin, I know better than to shoot up. I'm smarter than my addiction." It's up to you. When you and your wife and aunt can't handle it reach out and turn yourself over to a professional. Try not to replace!!! You can do without the replacement. The AA community is awesome.

Good to know.. I have a plan and I’m trying to stick with it. I also been in contact with someone in case I can’t handle it.
