I will say that a toll on interstates is kinda screwed up. We already paid for that

Those roads were built decades ago, before any of us drove. YOU didn't pay for any of that.

And even if you did, things eventually need to be replaced. And it's faster and more efficient, and honestly, more fair, to replace it with a toll road vs using the gas tax.

Let's say that the I-10/210 East and West interchanges are 12 miles apart and the more direct route by continuing on I-10 is 9 miles.

Would you drive an extra three miles, typically at 50>70 MPH to avoid the toll?

All I know is that the nun said "$60, same as in town"

I have nothing against toll roads when they are used as an alternate route, not to replace THE route.

I’m ok if the toll road is a completely new road and it’s a bypass for something (like a Baton Rouge loop). Going and adding a toll to a stretch of road that has already been there for 60 years (because you failed to maintain it) absolutely not.

The bridge was built in 52. So you are saying that no one has paid taxes in the last 71 years for infrastructure maintenance?

This has nothing to do with maintenace. If we got 71 years of maintenance out of it, we did good.

It needs to be replaced, not further maintainted.

The issue is trucking companies.

I've said for years they need their own roads. I know its not economically feasible at all, but man it would be nice. No more Gordon billboards standing on 18 wheelers to sue them

My issue with this on a widely travelled road would be the ones that send you a bill in the mail after travel through. Let’s say the toll was 2 dollars. They tack on an administrative fee and mail you a bill. Cost for the paper, printing and postage is about a dollar.

If you travel in an area often enough you can almost always set up some sort of account. I have an EZ Pass Uni that covers 19 eastern states, the only two states in the west that I hit tolls are Texas and Oregon and I set up accounts with their toll collectors. The Uni gets discounts and you only pay every 3 months (IIRC) so the fees are minimal and much less than the total of pay by mail for the same tolls. LA could hook up with the Uni systems and locals could get deeper discounts and people like me who live out of the area but occasionally go over the bridge would get discounts over a pay by mail system.
