Found this obit in the Morning Advocate today:
quote:

Gaston Clotiaux Jr., 92, was reunited with the love of his life on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Gaston was born February 27, 1925 to Gaston and Elita Clotiaux in Beaumont, Texas, the oldest of three sons. After marrying Emma in 1943, Gaston went on to serve in the United States Navy during WWII as an Aviation Machinist.

Shortly after his discharge, Gaston began his 32 year career as a Salesman for Hormel Meat Co.

Gaston loved to spend time in his garden. One of his greatest pleasures was watching the fruits of his labor grow into beautiful flowers.

When he wasn't in his garden, you could find him in his shop creating gorgeous cabinetry and furniture out of simple pieces of wood. Gaston is survived by.....

Preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Emma Clotiaux,

72 years. Hard to imagine.

Wow, you gotta admire a 72 year marriage. Think about their experiences during WW2, imagine the drastic changes in culture and technology they witnessed together.

I love talking with couples who have been married for decades. It's amazing to think they things they experienced in all those years.

If i had the health and ability to do so I would love to spends hours interviewing older people about the things in their life and asking them questions and just listening.

I have helped plan quite a few 50+ anniversary celebrations. I always do the research and make amazing displays with facts about the years they married 9such as average car cost, home cost, min wage, cost of a gallon of milk, etc.

I love printing out the old advertisements, historical headlines and popular trends, games and toys for each decade for the display.

My guess would be a Metamucil cocktail and some geritol.

Mine went 51 before my Dad passed away. And they got married late.

My in-laws have been married 62 years. They said neither ever thought about suicide. But, homicide crossed their minds a couple of times. I guess a good sense of humor has helped them all these years!

That is an amazing accomplishment. When my mom died, her and my dad had been married 49 years.
