Today I was told an interesting bit of information regarding the USPS and Pandemic Leave

So, today I was griping to a friend about extremely slow mail delivery. She said she has a family member with the USPS who she was talking with recently. He told her that while the sick leave set up for Covid is not mandatory, it is optional for all employees to use, even without proof of a positive test for them or a family member. The kicker is that the Pandemic Leave goes away on December 31, and it isn't known if it will be renewed. So, there is no telling how many USPS employees across the country are taking that leave right now, during one of the busiest periods in its history.

It seems the way this plan was implemented has done nothing but exacerbate delivery issues. I wonder how many employees who are using the leave optionally are being reported as legitimately out of work for Covid?

A federal law that provides workers with emergency paid sick leave and other protections during the coronavirus pandemic will soon expire.
The Families First Coronavirus Relief Act (FFCRA) requires employers, including the Postal Service, to provide their workers with emergency paid sick leave and extended family and medical leave for child care expenses.
These provisions of the law will expire Dec. 31.
After this date, Postal Service employees will no longer be able to take FFCRA emergency paid sick leave or avail themselves of expanded Family and Medical Leave Act leave for child care.

The government ruins everything it touches.

The only thing that can fix this is a 'USPS Time Off Czar'. This position will pay $400,000 per year and will oversee the vacation and sick time of postal employees. The Czar will have his own department and building. Can't be having any waste or fraud in the government!

Got a brother who is a postman. He's also a ladies man, it's the perfect job for him.

Ours is just lazy and slow, and Union.
We used to get our mail by 3pm, then Baw retired, got new guy and it's 7-730pm since he took over a year ago.

Scruffy isn't the only one. I have a package that was mailed from Niagara, NY on Dec. 15. It has yet to cross a single state line. OweO could have delivered the damn thing by now, and that is without a vehicle and in at least one blizzard.

When government doesn’t work or is broken, just add more government

The USPS is completely worthless.
The only people who care whether it exists are boomers and the losers who work there.

Took a priority package 10 days to get from BR to a rural area in SHV area. Carrier refused to deliver the package because it wouldn't fit in the mailbox and gave the excuse the house was too far away from the mailbox.
They need to privatize the USPS. It is beyond repair.
