my local Walgreens swabbed for flu and COVID at the same time.

If it was a rapid test, it did not differentiate for influenza. The alert from the CDC specifically said ALL rapid tests had to apply for an EUA. If granted, ALL labs were sent a panel that detected only 1 strain of COVID, and 1 strain of MERS.

MERS was reported to have never been identified by any rapid tests.

I'm saying masks do help

Probably not the way the general public wears them. We don't have the benefit of a sterile environment and an endless supply of masks

if you're vaccinated, why would you worry about non vaxxed people?

In your case, vaccinated AND masked.

1. Odds are low you know what multiplex means.

2. You probably thinking this is the only PCR test for covid.

This applies to all labs that requested an EUA to produce a rapid test. Because the supporting documantation said they were all sent a single panel that detected 1 strain of COVID and 1 strain of MERS only. No influenza was included in the panel.

There is no such thing as a test that doesn't distinguish between viruses.

Any questions?

You need to stop posting. The CDC alert clearly defined that all rapid tests were designed to detect 1 strain of COVID, 1 strain of MERS. Yes, there are more advanced tests, but none of the rapid tests were designed to detect anything other than two illnesses, since Feb. 2020, according to the CDC alert. These authorizations will end on Jan. 1st. Are you surprised to know that is also an election year?

So they do protect???

Not in the least, especially when you are in a non-sterile environment, for 8 hours at a time.

In fact, three large, randomized controlled trials were conducted in the 1980s to determine once and for all if surgical masks actually did prevent surgical wound infection.

But the trials "showed absolutely no efficacy" for their original purpose, MacIntyre noted.

"Really, the surgeon might as well wear nothing on their face," she said.

Still, the CDC recommends a mask in the operating room, citing long-standing tradition and the benefits of protecting nose and mouth from splashes of blood and other bodily fluids.

MacIntyre noted that a face shield is a better option against splashes because surgeons have to wear eye protection with a mask anyway.

Why does the Operating Room staff were them if they don't help???

Well they are wearing them in a sterile environment to protect open wounds and cuts mainly from bacterial infection.

They are not wearing masks to protect from airborne virus like covid or flu.

I will let you look up what virologist wear when dealing with airborne viruses.

We should want differentiation between the actual flu and COVID.

So following the guidelines and isolating flu and covid patients together in hospital and long term care settings we effectively exposed them all to both.

Here in the US we have no reliable data because we have 1,000 healthcare systems instead of one
So you're claiming that the federal government... which collects over 150,000,000 tax returns every year, can't handle reporting from 1,000 health care providers?

Tell me again why the government should be running healthcare.

It means they have been counting flu cases as Covid this whole time to stack the numbers against Trump.

Now that Xiden is in charge the CDC now wants to differentiate between the two because can’t have the Covid numbers going up under dipshits administration.

Some people actually believe the flu just went on vacation once Covid hit. Sheep

Because viruses aren't the only thing they're using them for.

What about the 80% that hasn't had Covid?

I don't really understand the question. The people who haven't had COVID or the flu simply haven't had a viral infection.

What a lot of people are suggesting is that flu cases are being misdiagnosed as COVID cases because the testing is flawed, and we aren't looking for flu. I.e. people with the flu have a minuscule, insignificant amount of detectable COVID proteins in their noses and are being tallied in the COVID column. While I will be the first to admit that testing is being misused to some degree, there is likely more to it than that, which is what I described. Plenty of flu tests are still being performed.
