In hospital with elderly parent since Monday.

Doctor advised discharge today at around 8:30 am.

Still fricking here.

Because doctors don't know what's going on with other patients and what the nurses' work load is. PApers to print, info to enter, MARs to get, all kinds of things ...

Trust me .. I know it's hard but patience is a virtue. It's only been 1.5 hours. That's NOT long honestly.

Because hospitals set the cutoff at around midday for charging you another day. So, when the doctor sees you on rounds at 9 in the morning and decides to order your discharge, the paperwork delay puts you past the cutoff. That way they can tell you you're getting out today, but still charge you for tomorrow.

It's like checking out late at a hotel.

even pre-covid an hour and a half is nothing, ask the nurse for a Tampon while you're waiting

What a country to live in. The horror you’re experiencing is simply unforgivable.

Believe me, the doctor is trying to get you the F out.

I understand it takes time, but with computers and smartphones it should not take as long

Maybe the doctor that approves discharge has other patients. Maybe they’re in surgery.

Case management closing out the report, insurance verifying necessity for length of stay, making sure your local pharmacy is set with new prescriptions, nurse that has 5 other charts to document on needs to finish yours so you have your DC papers ready to go.

All of this has nothing to do with your Doctor. He might be finished with you at 8:30, but that is when everyone else can now BEGIN to close.

Now also understand you are not the only patient being discharged and those case workers finishing off your case probably have another 10 to do that morning. So the “8:30” DC from the doc is basically saying your out of my hands in the morning and onto the billing side of things. You will probably leave the hospital around lunch.

My guess is billing, they have to make sure they charge you for everything before you leave.

The hospital here in our town is standard. Doctor releases patient in the morning sometime, the paperwork gets done, final vitals, patient unhooked and dressed for release after lunch. I assume it has to do with billing for the last day.

Just who do they think they are? It's only those racially discriminated against professional affalete multi millionaires who spend all week practicing their dance moves for routine play that need worry about how it looks on video!

It's a nurses job to waste scarce PPE making tiktoks, not the quality of the dance.
