I also prefer this thread b/c it mentions Laurel in the title. In the play A Streetcar Named Desire Laurel was the location of Blanche Dubois' plantation Belle Reve.
Unfortunately this was changed to "Oriole" in the film for legal reasons.
I never understood why Williams didn't locate Belle Reve in his native Delta. Are there any plantations around Laurel? I know they have trees and mills there, but never thought it was cotton country.

honestly I have nothing to add to this,but because of my user name I felt some odd urge to hit "submit."
