I rented one while visiting Coeur d'Alene. I knew we wouldn't be spending much time in the rental except for sleeping and showering.
The layout was efficient and the fixtures were all really nice. However, you could hardly get any natural light into the house. The more time I spend in a home, the more open and natural light I like to have.

we lived in a 512 sq ft house. The kitchen was 11x16, bathroom/laundry room was 5x16, and the living room/bedroom was 16x16. It was comparable to a small studio apt
That's a $3k/month apartment in NY

This is the real issue I have with them. 5 years ago they were $15k, became popular and went up in price to $Crazy.00

Hopefully you never need to sell it
It's going on property that can't be sold without the approval of every single collective owner... So even if I would want to, I can't.

I'd like to see what kind of innovations and space savings a tiny house designer could come up with in a full size (3,000sqft+) house. A lot of the stuff they come up with is really interesting but I couldn't live in a "house" that small.

Building a house on property you don't own doesn't sound like a very smart financial move.

Co-ops are retarded. If you think an HOA is insane...

It's ancestral land. It can be sold only with the express permission of all land owners in the original tract.
Even then, if they agree, they have first bid. It has worked fine for six generations. I think I'll be okay.

Nope. I have a wife and 4 kids and a 4100 sq ft 6 bedroom/4 1/2 bath home. Three of my kids are girls....two of them are teens. If you have 4 females in the house of "getting ready" age , you need a bathroom for each. I couldn't imagine being crammed in to a 1500 sq ft home with this crew.

But I see some of those stupid frickers on that show spending $70-$80k for that when they could have bought a really nice travel trailer for less than half of that.
I would imagine that the quality of the materials would be better than a travel trailer. I can not see a typical travel trailer lasting decades.
The tiny homes I have seen built are built with better materials than a travel trailer. Not saying 80k worth of better material

Trola, i know someone who did three modular addons.
She spent most of her days not home (work) but it meant she could have over night guests.

The point of a tiny house is to give you comfort and shelter on a large swath of land.
If you have land then that is the pull...the tiny house lets you live there.
If I owned land in the mountains with a lake...you'd bet I'd have a tiny house. Why would I want to change that terrain to put a big honkin' house there?
