Ticket for not stopping at intersection

Myself and several of my neighbors have gotten tickets for not stopping at the intersection leaving our subdivision. The problem is that the stop sign is set about 50 feet from the actual intersection and flanked on both sides by our entrance brick wall. Folks are stopping at the stop sign, then driving onto the highway. Because of the brick wall, the officer cannot see if you stop at the stop sign. He only sees you rolling through to the highway. This is in Youngsville. Police chief refuses to stop the practice.
