Personally I love the sound of it on water. I have the captains call on my new boat, which sounds great on a 400hp but can be cut off to be quiet if you're in an area with noise regulations.

Some seem to think it's annoying or trashy but I don't care. Thoughts?

I deal with it all the time at the camp, you almost never see one pass with the exhaust diverted. If you are running fast on Maurepas, Ponchartrain or in the Gulf have at it, idling or running 30-40 within a rocks throw of homes you are a jackass.

While most don't know it, or seem to care:

It shall be unlawful to use a motorboat unless the same is provided with an efficient muffler, underwater exhaust, or other modern device capable of adequately muffling the sound of the exhaust of the engine.

WLF

ETA nothing is as bad as airboats, even trip Merc 1550s.

I actually got into an argument about this as the barber shop (go figure). It became easy to identify the ones that were arse holes, they still didn't believe it even when confronted with the FWL site.

Honestly, the Go Devils and airboats don't bug me as much since many of those guys use them to make a living or side hustle but a Go Fast boat running less than all out isn't gaining anything with through hull. I do recognize we were aware of this before building the camp but some people just take it to the extreme, when you have to stop talking to someone within 3 feet of you for a full minute while someone idles by it is stupid though.

Yes. Classy boats don't have them. You can clearly see that the exhaust on my boat does not penetrate the hull.
