This shite wouldn't have ever been allowed to happen (or at least so easily) if Trump would have been in office.

What the point of them doing that? They will never be unloading, loading, or fighting a battle out on the frozen tundra.

Look at a map and find the shortest route between the US and Russia. You'll see why both countries have been sending submarines through the Arctic ice for over 50 years.

So the Russians subs are the reason the ice sheet is breaking up causing polar bears to drown, I’ll be damned.

Likely retaliation for the Polar Bear invasion of 2019.

I did it while on my sub. It’s pretty fricking cool
Played football while we were topside.
Both nations have been doing this for 50 some odd years

It’s also tougher to acoustically track subs under the ice. Modern sonar is much better today but subs can operate free from the threat of airborne ASW while they are sheltered under ice

So they can refuel Firefox

They used to have to surface occasionally for oxygen right? Not sure if that’s needed anymore? But my guess is they do it for simple crew psychological reasons occasionally because staying under water for long lengths of time take a toll.

Too young to really know but the first sub to break through the ice was a USA nuclear powered sub. They could have generated their own O2.
Nuke missile boats used to practice breaking through the ice so they could launch missiles back in the day.
The navy also partners w scientists to conduct experiments in the arctic circle
In regards to “crew psychological” thoughts....It’s a cool experience but the Navy doesn’t do anything for those types of purposes

The only reason a modeen submarine has to surface is bc you'll eventually run out of food. They don't give a shite about whether or not you need to see the sky.

I was kinda hoping to see that ice on top of the sub slide off and shear that dude in half.
I don't know what they are doing all that shite for. Ain't nobody gonna go fight up in that cold barren wasteland.

I hope they did an environmental study beforehand.

Broke through the ice in 2 different sturgeon class subs. Older boats but we could turn our fairwater planes vertical, which the LA class boats couldn't do. Now I don't believe any fast attacks have fairwater planes just bow planes. When you cross the artic circle you get a certificate and a ceremony. It's referred to as your " Blue Nose. The second time we broke the ice we had a bunch of weather guys with us from the University of Hawaii.

If only there was a technology that allowed a submarine to attack another continent with a ballistic missile.
