How about some good news for a change: LINK

A premature baby born the size of a bag of sugar and kept alive in a sandwich bag has defied the odds to start elementary school.
Darcey Clegg, who is now four years old, weighed just 1lb 5oz when she was born in September 2016 via an emergency c-section—three months early.
The little girl had to fight for her life in the neonatal unit at Royal Oldham Hospital, Greater Manchester, until she miraculously came home on 30th December after 64 days in hospital.

Gill’s pregnancy was smooth sailing until a scan at 28 weeks revealed her baby was not receiving enough blood and there was a placental abnormality. She was immediately rushed to Royal Oldham Hospital for an emergency operation.
“It was terrifying,” Gill said. “I wasn’t given much hope that she would make it. But she came out crying.”
Darcey was immediately taken to the neonatal intensive care unit to help her survive the crucial early months. She battled blood transfusions and had to build up strength before she could come home in time for New Year’s Eve.
“She was the best present,” Gill said.
Since then Darcey has defied the odds to be a normal healthy girl. “She started walking a bit late, but it was an amazing moment,” Gill said. “She is a dream.”
As for Darcey, she can’t wait to go to school, saying, “I can’t wait to go and play with lots of other kids.”

Why is a 4 year old going to school? My kid is 4 and has 22 months, 20 hours, and 10 minutes until she goes to school.

I was in school when I was four. It was called 4K.

My kid was about 6 weeks early, was just over 4 pounds, and spent three weeks in the NICU. I can't imagine a 1 pound baby and being there for so long. Good for her.
I know some kids are in the NICU for far longer than 64 days even, that has to be tough.

Man, that one hits home for me. We had a baby in the NICU, but thankfully he was only 5.5 weeks early. It fricking sucks.

My niece was born 12 weeks premature and she went home after 58 days in NICU and has not had much issue since. She weighed 1 lb, 13 oz. She is now 13 years old and does well. She's a bit small, but that's it.

In most states, that’s the cutoff for abortion. Take a look at what could easily had not been a life if given the wrong mother or inconvenience.

My SIL was born 12 weeks premature. She now has a masters degree. FIL says he owes everything that makes him a good man (faith, work ethic, outlook, etc.) on the struggles they went through when she was born.
I can't imagine the terror over those first few weeks of not knowing if your child will survive.

My twins were premies and weighed 3’5 and 3’13 when born. They spent 7 weeks in NICU. We almost lost my daughter at 1 week due to a brain aneurysm and a freak diabetic incident.
They are both perfectly healthy today. They both graduated high school this past year and she’s a freshman at Tech. My son is going to trade school.
We saw several premies a little over a pound in the NICU while we were there. It’s very rare that born that early that they don’t have some life altering conditions as a result. I feel for those families.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the kind of bill for that type of stay in the NICU?
