Old cars do not scare me. I could pop that engine out and rebuild it. In fact as I have posted here many times, doing just that is what I commonly do when I buy an old vehicle.
Case in point, the $300 car I bought off the OT, this is the pic the night I drove it home.
Maybe a person who knows nothing about mechanics would not want an older vehicle, myself I know those trucks can last decades with the proper maintenance.
You can eat off the engine in my taco, I clean the frame, every square inch, every oil change. My fluids are all clear and look new. If you never pop your hood or get your hands dirty, then sure, stick to new cars.

Mines a '13 I think.
I don't like that plastic faring on the front of the new one, doubt it would last...similar to mud flaps. I put a kick arse extraction point on the front of mine.

I like the rack you have. I have a camper on mine and I know it loos old-fogeyish, I don't think I will ever go with an open pick-up again. I have a 16' and an 8' trailer to haul stuff, so I don't need a truck bed.
I am about to order a roll out bed for my truck. I use it for business too, as it is 100x more reliable than the Ford rape van I used to use.

yeah, an unmaintained 2012 is more likely to break down than a 1995 car kept up well.
I really want a caprice station wagon because my 94 Impala was my favorite car ever (would drive at 80 from NOLA to Austin on one tank of gas)and I would like to make a wagon version, she shot it down

That engine doesn't need rebuilding.

I have a soft shell on mine, but I leave the windows out unless I go on a trip. It's a BestTop, the same company that makes nice Jeep tops.

I want to see how well the GM trucks keep their value.
My sister's Equinix has been nothing but problems and it just hit 50k, I have 167k on my truck and know I can get it to 200 before I even think about an overhaul.
Plus it's peppy. (spanked my friend's King Ranch f-150)

I have no vehicle note right now.
I like fixing up vehicles and working on cars is a hobby but I currently have a truck that never breaks down. so it's time to buy something that does.
1996 Caprice wagon or Excursion or a 4runner with three rows, but I want something big that can pull my boat or trailers.

Yea, I wish I could lock mine. It would keep me from having to move more valuable items up into the cab when we hike away from it, or park it in the city for any amount of time. It usually stays open like this
