Thoughts on Thailand? Any must sees? Looking at Chang Mai and Phuckett & Krabi

We did a few days in Bangkok, it has a lot of cool shite. Dont go if you can't stand huge cities, as it is massive, and congested.

Definitely going to Northern Thailand.

Phuket is a giant, built up tourist trap. Fly to Koh Samui and hit up Tao and Phangan. There are badass staffed villas for cheap On both of these islands. Private pools with unbelievable views for $250-300 in lower seasons. Bungalows for dirt.

Fly Korean with confidence -- great airline and a great place to connect.

How is travel there? I would like to see Angkor Wat, that would be awesome.

Now that I have seen the AirBnBs I don't know if I want a hotel. I like the idea of having a house for around $100 a night. The downside is that would require car rental. (even then it's cheap)

I'm in early planning stages, plan on going next June.

The big beaches on mainland krabi are Railay/Tonson.

If you venture off to the islands you have Ko Lanta, Ko Jum. Further out is Ko Lipe.

If you want to be at another busy spot there is of course Ko Phi Phi.

Each island has pluses and minuses. Further out you go the less developed, but travel time and such.

Ya I went with Ko Yao Noi because it splits the difference between being built up/touristy and middle of nowhere.

I'm going in super high season so that's why I steered away from the tourist hot zones.

If you go during a lower season then that changes the thought process and those famous spots can be really enjoyable from what I've read.

The prettiest water that I've seen though from research have been Ko Tao, the Similan, and some way down there like Kradan, Ngai, Tarutao etc. Off the top my head.

Got to get out of the bay to see that bluer water.

Enjoy the tsunamis and trannies.

Went to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Krabi or my honeymoon back in November 13.

I'm a bit burnt out on cities these days, so I wouldn't spend too much time in Bangkok unless you are the type that wants to party a lot. But I wouldn't skip it, either. Check out the temples. Pretty incredible. Huge arse shopping mall was actually pretty fun, too (MBK), but we got some cool decorative stuff shipped back home for pretty cheap. Hell, I bought some leather driving shoes that are still going strong for $15. Crazy good shoes.

Edit: Forgot to mention the floating market day trip (Damnoen Saduak). That was awesome. We rented a private driver through the hotel that drove us (pretty far outside the city), but it was a great trip. It's been awhile, but the private driver was pretty reasonably considering how nice it was. Look into it. Seeing people on buses for that trip made me feel baller. Heavy on sales at the shops, but you can get some cool stuff. Mainly cool use to float around, stop for some food, take in the site. But don't go to the tiger place on the way (it was cool... Got to hold a juvenile tiger), but the one up by chiang mai is supposed to be better. If they suggest stopping at the coconut farm to see how they make sugar and stuff, I'd do it. It's a quick stop but pretty interesting.

Chiang Mai was amazing. We were there during a Lantern festival, which was pretty cool. Street fair with music and food and stuff. Did the elephant thing where we helped care for them. Got to swim in a river with elephants. One of the coolest things I've ever done. Ziplining with Eagle something or other was a fun day, too.

Krabi was our base mainly for island hopping. Definitely do those tours out to Phi Phi (the beach - beautiful place that will be super crowded but I thought it was worth it), Hong Islands, etc. If I could do it over again, I'd probably try to charter a boat, though. They CRAMMED us in for the group tour. Boat for maybe 24 that they crammed 32 in. People were sitting on each other's laps. And this was with a well-regarded, top ranked shop. Not to mention, you would probably get more time at the places you liked more. Eat/shop in Ao Nang. Had a great meal overlooking an incredible sunset that never seemed to end.

Lastly, get a massage every single day. But not in your hotel. You should be able to find a local place and get a legit massage for $6 or so for an hour. $6. Seriously. We spoiled ourselves.

Careful with the tuk tuk drivers. Some of them will take you to different merchants and try to force you to buy jewelry or a suit or whatever.

7/11 was fairly common everywhere we went, so I was always able to buy beer directly instead of through the hotel (way cheaper). Wine, too.

Have fun! We'll always have a soft spot for Thailand now. The people are incredibly friendly for the most part and hard working.
