I lived in Madisonville but everything i did/everywhere I went was hwy 22/close to the lake and it was a nightmare just about every day
How long ago?
But yea, traffic is gonna suck way more for people that live there vs Mandeville, which is where the thread is about

It was more than 10 years ago, now that I think about it

Ever since they expanded I-12 the traffic has been substantially better.
On I-12, yes, the traffic flow is much better; however, the following areas won't have any relief from traffic in the foreseeable future.
- Hwy 22 Madisonville Bridge
- Hwy 190 merge to I-12 W
- Hwy 21 heading North. It's horrible after the lane reduction at the hospital
- Hwy 190 North of I-12 towards Covington

Lol yep. All those big houses out there are way cheaper for a reason. That stretch of highway is fools gold for anyone that has to regularly drive into Mandeville, let alone the south shore

I guess it depends on what your idea of foreseeable future is, but some of these are going to be addressed by projects that are already in the works.

If you are talking about getting on 12 from 190 then, yeah
Well, that's exactly what I'm talking about. We were discussing leaving Mandeville to get to Madisonville. Hwy 21 wouldn't have anything to do with that.

So where should I go in Louisiana?
Lafayette is the promised land. Friendly city, good food, plenty of entertainment options. Even the worst 5 o’clock traffic is manageable. Good schools, daughter went on to Harvard Ph.D.
Breaux Bridge is nice too but more rural, less traffic.
If you want a really small town matmosphere, New Roads on False River has a lot to offer.
Good luck. Keep us posted.

If we were to ever move back to Louisiana there’s only two places we would consider: Lafayette and Mandeville/Covington.
Public schools are quality, minimal crime, the area has all the food and shopping your family would need, family atmosphere, really close to BR & Nola, very easy drive to the AL, NWFL beaches.
The kicker for me would be your job. Are you commuting to Nola for work 5 days a week? I’d only do the Nola commute if I had a hybrid job. No way I’d do 5 days.
There’s traffic everywhere. We live in one of the most desirable outskirts suburb of Houston and it’s full of traffic. Name one place that is widely considered a good place to live and raise a family and it has traffic at peak times. It’s not 24/7 and it revolves around school drop off/pick ups

Once they fix the little bridge.
It has been worse since construction started.
At the end of the northside of the bridge they had expanded the lanes, rt now it's back to one. And causes a cluster.
Not saying it will be a million times better, but it will be better once finished.
