Looking at one for the old lady (no pics) and would appreciate any input. Is AWD worth it? Hybrid seems like a no brainer?

Looking at the Platinum trim level.

4 Runner is vastly superior to a Highlander

We looked at it. The price point for the Platinum is $52K and if I’m paying $50K for a crossover SUV it better be Bratwurst certified.

Sure

Financing anything over 6 years hybrid probably isn’t a bad idea

The daughter (no pics) has a 4 Runner, it is great, but unless it has changed in the last couple of years, the ride is stiff.

If you mean it’s a no brainer to avoid, then I agree.

Isn't it built on a Camry platform? How about a F-150 4wd with a short bed?

I actually really wish they would come out with a hybrid GX or 4Runner. For starters because the MPG sucks. And second because I would love to creep around the ranch in electric mode stalking pigs.

Why would you wish that complexity on some of the most reliable vehicles known to man?

Because I want to be able to cruise around off-road in stealth mode and Toyota is the only manufacturer on the planet I trust to do it and make it reliable.

4 runners are the most overrated SUV. Insanely priced these days

My thoughts are that you misspelled a used Porsche Cayenne diesel. AWD. Love it.
