I heard that if you put it in ALL CAPS that makes it definitively true.. but only if you also have an American flag as your team icon.

Man, don’t even worry about trying in this thread. They think stricter background checks for assault rifles infringes on their second amendment because it clearly says they should get a semi automatic assault rifle the exact day they want it.

They should have ducked.

ETA If I buy my son a $700 bulletproof windbreaker and he gets shot in the face bc he’s too dumb to duck I’d be pissed off.

Well if he gets shot within the 30 days of buying and you keep the receipt, you can at least return and get store credit.

I would consider the bullet shield binder insert for $100, though.

Weren’t you suppose to find me a link to an article that clearly showed how a semi automatic rifle was the only way a person was able to protect themselves (as opposed to a pistol or shotgun)? I’m still waiting for that.

That's a risk they're willing to take.

I didn't get a gun.

Did you get a gun?

So first off, you are quoting one mans opinion. This is no way actually shows how a shotgun or pistol is unable to protect you, and only an assault rifle can. But let me take a quote out of this article.

quote:

KL: For self-defense, a reliable semi-automatic is king.

His only beef with shotguns is that the ammunition can be unreliable. So in a trade off of making semi automatic assault rifles harder to obtain by stricter background checks, we also focus on making more reliable ammunition for shotguns? He also went on to say that many will argue that shotguns are indeed better at home self defense than assault rifles, but go to a range and you will be more accurate with the assault rifle. But why do you need to kill someone 25-50 yards away if it is HOME SELF DEFENSE. I know we have OT ballers in here, but if you have a room 50 yards long, you probably have balling security as well. Again, no real situation showing that only an assault rifle can save you.

ETA: I don’t think I’m asking for a lot here. If assual rifles are key to self defense, then there should be plenty of examples showing how only an assault rifle could have saved a person. So far, I’ve gotten a link to an assault rifle being used once in self defense, and the guy killed 3 people who none of them had a gun. Just brass knuckles.

No there isnt. He was making the claim that an AR is the better home defense weapon. If he happens to be wrong should we get ban AR-15s?

Mental illness is a global problem. The consistent problem of mass shootings is uniquely American. There clearly needs to be some reforms in our gun laws. I’m all for the 2nd amendment but it is insane that an 18 year-old can legally buy an assault rifle designed specifically to kill people quickly from a private seller without so much as a background check.

I completely agree, but as long as the gun lobbyist continue to contribute millions of dollars to politicians campaigns, the politicians are not going to do anything.. And it isn't just republicans, they donate to democrat candidates as well. Not all of them, but they are going to make sure they have enough support that no one will touch this issue.. And then they make people believe that if the government talks about making any type of gun control law, that they are working their way to taking everyone's gun away.

No one is trying to take everyone's gun away. But when school shootings become a common thing and parents have to worry about their kids while they are at school, there are some things that need to be done.. But on this board... If you say anything like that you are automatically a "liberal", which I am not.

Im not calling for a ban on assault rifles. I see nothing wrong with assault rifles. I 100% think people kill people, not guns. But currently, it’s very easy for those people to get guns that make killing multiple people easy. I think that there should be better background checks for assault rifles. The background check for semi assault rifles should be the same as automatic assault rifles. It doesn’t make it impossible, but it does make it more difficult. I don’t think that’s asking to much imo. But apparently that goes against the second amendment.

Common? Does this happen so often that kids are actually ducking gunfire on the way to class? This a rare occurance. A blip on the radar. If parents are worried about their children lives they should have them walk to school.

They could easily afford to do this if they didn’t have to waste TONS of money on bus transportation.

People kill people with a tool and like any tool, there are some that can get the job done more effective than others.

If you decide to cut down a tree what would you rather use? An ax or a chainsaw? A chainsaw allows you to do the job much easier and quicker.

If someone decides to go shoot up a school, they will use the tool that will allow them to shoot as many people as possible as quick as possible.. I don't think a teenager should be able to easily have that option. An 18 year old shouldn't be able to easily go buy an assault rifle.
