Literally none of those things are a good reason to dislike someone. What you’re feeling there is called jealousy champ

Not particularly. Again, I hung out with people both in and out of the Greek system and I met just as many a-hole, entitled, “look at my money” people who were OOS students paying OOS tuition as Greek people. LSU is not cheap and college across the board is a magnet for wealthy kids. I didn’t meet anyone who worked a “real job” to get by in college. If you want to meet those people, go to trade school
I didn’t like the people in the Greek system for my own reasons, but the fact that peoples parents worked hard is not one of those reasons. How petty and shitty. But you’re the big morally superior guy in this thread and fraternity people are the pieces of shite, huh?

I can only speak of when I was in school at LSU and the guys in my and other fraternities that I knew so everyone's experience is different. I would say at least half of the guys in the 90's in my fraternity had part time jobs, came from middle class families in LA, TX, & MS (for the most part), and at least 10 were in the guard or on ROTC scholarships to pay for tuition.
Did we act like "douches" some of the time? Absolutely. As did pretty much every kid in college at some point. Did we do charity work as well? Yes. Even if it was for the sole reason of meeting new sorority girls. I guess the right thing for the wrong reason is still important some times.
I just never understood anyone who immediately hated guys in fraternities for no other reason than they weren't in one and the same for fraternity guys who thought they were better than GDI's.
I would also say that in my time in fraternities most kids join or go through rush because they are NOT connected and just want to meet some guys will similar interests outside of maybe 2-3 old row ones.

This is true. What Forever has been saying in this thread is also true. I did the frat thing, but it didn’t define my college experience. Anytime the frat argument comes up, both sides generally argue the extremes, and in certain instances, they are right. My experience is that overall, it’s just a personal thing, and I don’t look down on either side for their decision.

Aren’t you like 60? In the 2010’s and beyond no one is paying for LSU by working a job. I worked 32 hours a week my senior year and it couldn’t have scraped my tuition if I didn’t have TOPS. Most, as in 99.9999% of high school kids who are going to go to a 4 year university are not working “real jobs” in 2022. I’m not sure what delusional fantasyland you’re living in to think that every non-Greek kid is pulling themselves up by their bootstraps, but get real.

Yeah I love the idea that a state school in one of the poorest states in the country is overflowing with opulently wealthy kids

So you don't think Greek kids skew towards higher socioeconomic groups?
Than other white kids who are going to LSU and in similar majors? As a mathematical average, yes, in the sense that their parents are upper middle class, and by definition, the average of any population is going to be “average” or “middle class”. Anecdotally, out of the 5 or so people I’d met whose parents were ultra rich I.E. $100,000,000 net worth or above, they were all non-Greek. And out of the people who bragged about money, verbally said they were rich or implied it, thought about money regularly, tried to use money specifically to get girls, etc. I’d say that more were non Greek people.

You don't think it's more likely that they have brand new cars they didn't buy?
Brand new? Not at all

You don't think it's more likely their parents are well connected in insular Louisiana?
I mean possibly? Again, in the sense that most Greek families are upper middle class?
You seem to have a complex about wealth and have an unrealistic perception of how wealthy or connected people are because they play the part or wear polo shirts.

quote:ah yes, very normal use of the phrase “real job”
Basically, a typical student job that takes up 20 hours a week.

quote:Frat daddy here. I paid for every dime of school, dues, and meal plan. The meal plan was the greatest for me. I drove an old Nissan hardbody 2x4 that I clutch started for two years. It was worth it because of the density of pretty women. Still have great friends from that time.

Some zoomer claims no kids in college work for extra money, or to help pay bills. .

I never rushed, but frats should be allowed to exist. Freedom of association.
