If something suspicious or foreign entity is looking for funds they need my SWIFT number.
I do multiple foreign and domestic transactions a month through different accounts and in 35 years my company’s account has never been compromised

That's a little unreasonable. Go for $587. Up the ante to make sure he's serious, but not by an amount that is out of reach.
Throw in a "my wife and I actually found this really cute (whatever the frick) at a (whatever the frick store) and it's $587. I'll take that, and you've got a deal, pal!"

Serious question because I don’t craigslist: how is this scam performed?
So say you go along with it...you give a mailing address. They either send a check that clears or they don’t. How do they gain anything?
