Yeah exactly, it's an award. Not something you win. Something you're awarded.

Im not saying he wishes he'd have gotten the award. He lost his life because of his courageous actions. He sure as hell prolly didn't wish he had to do what he did to get the award. What I'm saying is that it's not a competition, you don't just win it like a trophy. In any case, Sgt. Gonzalez is a Marine's Marine and embodied what Semper Fidelis means.

living conditions would have to go to the AF overall (unless coast guard is better; I have no experience with them).

We dont really have barracks because our installations are too small. So as an E3 you would be receiving BAH. When I was in Oahu I got 1600 in BAH and lived in Hawaii Kai with 3 other Coasties. After splitting the rent we were banking 800 bucks. I had a friend that from Waipahu and he lived at home with his dad and he pocketed all that 1600 now he is Seattle doing the same shite at his moms house. That bastard.

As a 26 year Army Vet still serving, I would recommend in order: Air Force, Navy, Army, Marine Corp
Good Luck in whatever you decide.

Well, boot camp for the USMC fricking blows, you'll get fricked with but so does everybody.

All the other branches' basic is pretty much summer camp. They're jokes.

OP, if you want respect, lifelong brotherhood, best uniforms, and can put up with bullshite, join the USMC. If you're a punk bitch, join the others.

Sounds about right. Not even through your first enlistment and you're an authority on every branch.

In all honesty, I'm not sure if I want a Marine E-3 thinking any other way. Great job by his basic training/boot camp.
