I have a 10 month old Brittany puppy that I haven't done any gun training with yet. We're sitting out on the deck enjoying the nice evening when this a-hole decides to unload his fireworks arsenal left over from 4th of July. Scared the shite out of my pup and ended up lighting my neighbors yard on fire. We got the fire put out, but now my pup will not leave my lap. I went to put the lid back on my trash can and the snap it makes scared the shite out of her and she ran to the house. Is my dog ruined or will she get through it and be fine around guns?

That's what you get for allowing your dog to bark nonstop while your gone

My experience is that pups are either gun dogs from birth or they aren’t.

I don’t think there’s much an owner can do.

Your dog is still young, there are still things you can do, don’t stress. My dad took his German shorthair pheasant hunting at 10 months at the end of a field pheasants were flying like crazy and there was a ton of shooting, the dog wouldn’t leave my dads legs the rest of the hunting trip.
The next year he was pointing and retrieving like crazy.
Set up some fun retrieves, then have a buddy shoot a dummy with ,22 blanks from a distance, eventually close the distance.
If your dog has good lines it will want to hunt.
Look at it like a little league kid that got hit in the face with a ground ball, they will be scared for a little while, but eventually they will get over it.

Is your dog a veteran? Thank her for her service (good girl).

Hopefully when she gets jazzed up about a bird she won't even hear the gun.

I'd bet money you didn't let your neighbor know how you feel. So, without venting that frustration, you had to come to the OT like a huge vagina.

And it's a puppy. It's going to be nervous with new situations. That fact that you used the word "ruined" tells me you exaggerate a lot and are soft.

No, she will be just fine. Same thing happened to my Springer when we got her on 4th of July weekend.

Get a toy pop gun and every time before you feed her shoot one blank. She will be timid at first but encourage her to come eat.

Eventually she will associate the loud/abrupt noise with pleasure and come running to eat. She will never worry about noises again regardless of what y’all are doing, hunting etc.

It’ll take a few days but she’s still a puppy. Spaniels are smart as shite, don’t worry. She will be retrieving birds in no time.

They have a house full of drunk people over there partying so I'm not interested in walking up and starting any shite right now. Earlier we were kind of focused on putting my other neighbors yard fire out before it got to the house. So frick you. I was actually hoping to hear from some people with experience with gun dogs.

Man it's been dry as shite here and it's windy tonight. The grass is still dry and brown, and we have been under a burn warning. No idea what these dumb assess were thinking but that shite was about to get out of hand real quick. It caught quick and was very close to getting to the neighbors house.
