About the same.
I’ll bring it back to sports. New Year’s Day was like nothing else. 5 bowl games that all seemed huge and the occasional cluster-f at the end of the day with who should be #1.
Of course CFB was crooked as hell then too but as kids we didn’t know or care about it as much. The orange bowl always seemed to have the best matchup since OU and Nebraska, Miami and later FSU were rolling.

Just accept that you don't know what you don't know. The 70s was my teens and the 80s my twenties. Both were great decades to be a kid. In the age of internet, cellphones, and social media you can't possibly understand what friendships and life in general meant without those things. You missed out.

The end of full service gas stations. Three of four corners at main intersections were stations - then came convenience and fast food and now we have chain drug stores occupying these corners.

Galaga was my favorite arcade game, even before a kid told me about the cheat for it. Went straight to the arcade and played until the kill screen on one quarter.
Same here. I still remember the cheat. I did it on the Galaga machine at the 7-11 up the street from us. I rolled the score at least three times before my pissed off Mom came looking for me. Had a crowd watching and about twelve spaceships lined up on the bottom.

Wasn't even born until the 90s but the 80s to me looks like it would've been a good time if I was alive.

The second I saw that screenshot I could hear her awkwardly saying that line, complete with her racking the shotgun in the middle of the line.

My teenage years were the 80s. My wife calls those years unsupervised but they were the best ever.
I loved what we had and didn't at the same time. Hanging in the malls to meet girls and but what could only be called some ridiculous clothes. I am glad that there were no cell phones with cameras to document what we did or things could have turned out different.
Music
Freedoms
Cars, both good and bad
First jobs and first fun job
Being able to to get on my BMX with my shotgun and go hunting in the nearby woods without the cops being called
I could go on...

All of Baton Rouge used to drive through Monticello.
Now all of Baton Rouge avoids it.

If that car had the horse power of the cars today, it would've been ranked as one of the most memorable cars ever made.

we’d use a butter knife on the two buttons to set high scores.
Nothing is more 80s than malls and we had a brand new one right across the road. It was glorious going to the arcade, couple of record stores then hit up the rock candy store and pizza joint.
We used a "D" Battery worked way better

In honor of it being Saturday morning, remember being a kid in the 80's and waking up to Saturday am cartoons? Good stuff, those days are long gone.

The “unsupervised” part is a huge part of why they were so good.

I was 10 in 80 and 19 in 89. 80-85 were peak 80s but even the late 80s seem a lot better, in retrospect.

The fears and insecurities rose with the internet. Prior to that, people were more free.

Smartphones and social media kicked that ish into overdrive. Dopamine and serotonin addicted Pavlovian robots. Drop an EMP on some satellites and reboot this mfer.
