Go to Greensboro or the zoo in Asheboro. W-S is a dump outside of Wake Forest's campus.
Seriously, don't waste your time.

I live in Winston-Salem. I would suggest the following.
- Old Salem tour would be a must
- Downtown action is 4th Street and Trade Street (shops, drinks, food)
- Trade Street is where most of the art shops are at, if you are into that
- Foothills suggestion by others is a good one (beer great, food okay)
- Reynolda House Museum of American Art
Unless you are a die hard Andy Griffith fan then I would skip Mt Airy.
There are several vineyards in and around Forsyth county if you want to sample the wine.
Interesting that you will be in Winston-Salem on Saturday. I will be in Baton Rouge for the game. #superbowl

This is complete crap. The downtown area has seen a lot of growth the past few years. The city has really cleaned it up and there are lots of businesses downtown. I know because I have worked downtown for 12 years. Winston and Salem have lots of history, with Salem predating our country's birth.

It's a memorial service for a friend who passed. I will be getting around via über. Just looking for a place to kill about 5 hours downtown on a Saturday afternoon. Obviously I'll be smoking cigs and doing the witch trial tours.

Uh, that'd be Salem, Massachusetts, not Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Also I'm getting in late Friday night so I'm assuming there are some cool bars downtown. Staying at either the Marriott or Wyndham downtown.

Sorry for your loss.
Old Salem is adjacent to downtown. The Strollway walking path will take you there from downtown, or just uber. (google wsgreenways)
4th and Trade streets are your best bets to drink and eat. There are some gems off these streets as well. Yelp app on your phone will be a good guide.

If you stay at the Marriott downtown on N Cherry you won't need a car. You'll be on 4th St with all of the bars and restaurants. Small Batch is on Cherry across the street from the Mariott. Just checked the local music venue "Ziggy's" and Corey Smith is playing that night. He has a pretty good following with the college crowd. The music always sounds great in there. It's on the outskirts of downtown and would want to Über there.

Ziggys on Friday night .. Corey Smith. He gets a lot of hate on Music Board, so his shows must be fun (& they are). Ziggys on skirt of downtown.
Not much for Saturday afternoon. I was downtown this past Sa afternoon, WS has the whole artsy thing going on. Dining:Sweet Potatoes.
I'd go with a ride out to Raylen .. Basic vineyard/ wine tasting: Raylen

Just a few below. Lots more than this. Depends on the scene you are looking for. Some good ones off these streets too. Probably do a Yelp search to find what you are looking for.
Trade Street - Silver Moon Saloon, Single Brothers, Luna Lounge
4th Street - Foothills, Tate's Craft Cocktails, Bulls Tavern
Note, there are some good ones on Burk Street as well (e.g. Old Winston Social Club) but it is not really walking distance from where you are staying. Would need to do a cab or uber.

Solid advice. Ditto for The Fatman's suggestion on Raylen.

Why is the baseball team called the "Dash" ? For the dash between Winston and Salem?
Because the dash don't be silent.

Given the proximity to Wake Forest, is it safe to assume that any exotic dancing establishments allow neither dancing nor women getting naked.
