I’m about to marry into a family with a house in Montauk, 2 BR in TriBeCa that’s theirs
I’ll eventually move out to a suburb when it’s time to have kids
I’m only 27

I actually made a thread on this in the SEC OT
What has happened to accents
Even the “New Yorkers/NJers” i meet don’t sound like i thought they would
And you can even see it on here, people typing “you guys” not y’all

Right there with you man (to include the current age). Had a hell of a time living in big cities around the world when I was in my 20s and 30s. Not so much now, and even Columbia is beginning to wear on me.

Do you still retain your dialect, if you had one in the first place? I swear every single fricking person asked me about mine wherever I went. You'd think I was wearing overalls and had a fat chaw in my gums.
My wife has been in Louisiana for 23 years and still sounds like a northern Alabama chick. Everybody notices her accent when they meet her.

Nah, even Huntsville is getting too big for me. Wife and I are looking around Bryson City, Waynesville, Saluda, or possibly the Yadkin Valley (wineries).
ETA: Toss in anywhere around Blue Ridge, Blairsville, and Clayton (and all points in between) in North Georgia. Although it's becoming infested with Atlanta tards at an increasing pace.

Places like that are more my speed now too. I don't love WFH full time but I'd do it if it meant that I could live wherever I wanted.

See, I’m 29, so without Covid and the idiotic protests, a big city would hold serious appeal for me.
However, Baton Rouge is all the downsides of a big city with none of the advantages, plus is always dead and miserable from Memorial Day-Labor Day. With Covid, the city has been completely dead since St. Patty’s, and while the weather was great even into June, this summer will be miserable and last the rest of our lives, or at least that’s what it feels like.

Ya, I'm not a total fan of it either. But it's looking like the wife's job will be going WFH sooner rather than later, and when that happens we'll be moving. Our CIO has already said if life circumstances necessitate moving, WFH full time is going to be authorized if we're not within a quick drive of an office.
I'll trade dealing with WFH with being able to be on a trail or whitewater at the drop of a hat.

Commercial Real Estate is in the shitter, too. Many companies are realizing that they can save a good amount of overhead by going to a virtual office and cutting their office square footage in half. NYC is freaking the frick out.
