Science is concerned with the how, not the why of existence. It is not a threat to you or anyone else who wants to think that a “higher power” exists. Enjoy your lifestyle.

Intelligence is subjective. A person can know a lot about one thing and virtually nothing about another. He may have brain talents or he may be limited in his ability to process data.

Most of the people we label as intelligent have focused on an area that matches their brain talents and are quite successful by society’s definitions. The most brain talented person to have lived was Albert Einstein.

A study of his brain showed that he had many more neural connections than anyone else. Fortunately, he was interested in physics and gifted humanity with two magnificent theories that changed our world, technologically speaking.

So yes, there are some very intelligent people on earth.

The way the earth works to remain habitable is incredible. From continental shift, volcanism, gravity, the atmosphere, water cycle. If any one thing for any reason stopped working, it would slowly become inhabitable.

It’s like it was designed that way or something

Yeah, its almost like Earth was the result of a perfect creation. Created perfectly to harbour life in an endless see of nothingness.

But I know the Science Bois, will continue to try to convince us it was just all happenstance. A unfathomable infinite singular point of everything in the Universe just decided to go Bang one day and Earth just happened to come together perfectly out of that Big Bang.

And what about all the other planets? Failures?

Given that there are at least hundreds of trillions of planets in the universe, odds are at least one of them would be "perfect" at some point in time. There was a time when Earth wasn't habitable (and a time when it didn't even exist), and there will be another time in the future when it won't be habitable.

We developed in seemingly "perfect" conditions because that's the only type of place it could happen.

The earth isn't perfect, and neither are we. If humans were perfect, there wouldn't be so many of us like yourself who are so easily fooled by logical fallacies.

Webb took a 5-hour look at the Trappist system.

NASA scientists will look for biomarkers and, perhaps, industrial pollutants in the atmospheres.

Olivia Lim, PhD student at the Université de Montréal and principal investigator of a JWST program surveying four of the seven TRAPPIST-1 planets. "We may know very soon, if not from Trappist then some other system, whether we’ve got close neighbors in the galaxy."

How will a confirmation of ET life elsewhere affect you?

Hate to burst the NASA bubble-bath here, but...

MOST. INSANE. WISHFUL-THINKING. ABSTRACT. EVER.

NONE of this is "Science". It's Science-Fiction. NONE is provable. None of the claims or can be verified. "Surveying" supposed planets 40 LIGHT YEARS away?? (Antarctica hasn't even been surveyed -- and it's part of Earth's backyard.)

But because now NASA allegedly launches the $10 billion Webb Telescope into "Space", suddenly new windows of "Space Research" that could "discover" ETs, Water, and other "Earth-like" planets -- *now* this whole mission becomes a compulsive fascination. This is a substitute diversion to those demanding long overdue manned missions to the Moon OR Mars (which of course is not, nor is possible.)

Come on people. Have any of you looked at the link and claims -- and actually examined the so-called "investigation"??

Do yourselves a favor and please do so at the initial link.

(Here's one more link at 'The Planetary Society'):

THE PLANETARY SOCIETY

Are any of you people even looking into ANY of these "exciting!" claims??

Exciting Claim #1:

TRAPPIST-1...We are told is an "ultra-cool Red Dwarf Star / Sun in the constellation Aquarius"

Exciting Claim #2:

This alleged "Red Dwarf Star" / Sun has seven roughly Earth-sized planets orbiting around it

Exciting Claim #3:

Three of the alleged "Earth-sized planets"(we are again told) happen to be in "the habitable zone". (VERY convenient!)

Exciting Claim #4:

TRAPPIST-1 -- "The ultra-cool red dwarf Star" is [i]just 40 light-years from us, making it easier to study

Exciting Claim #5:

It may even have huge amounts of water(!).

And the BIG Claim:

ETs!!

And here we have the kicker that gets all the NASA-Fanbois all tingly and gushing with a hope not imaged since the glory days of Kirk, Spock, McCoy and The Enterprise missions.

quote:

Results from studies like these will not just tell us about TRAPPIST-1 and its planets, but could potentially help us make educated guesses about other solar systems out there, and where best to search for life.

!!!

THIS is NOT real. Not close to provable, tangible model. This is nothing but Science-Fiction.

Check out the further detailed layers of tech notes, accompanied by impossibly neat, detailed imagery from NASA and the JPL to create this illusion:

quote:

THE TRAPPIST-1 SYSTEM Artist's representation of the Trappist-1 system with the exoplanets at scale between each other and the host red dwarf star. The ESI (Earth Similarity Indice) calculated by Abel Mendez (PHL) for each exoplanet is added. For comparison with our solar system planets, Earth's ESI is 1, Venus's ESI is 0.44, and Mars's ESI is 0.64. Caution: the ESI is not a direct measure of habitability but formally a fuzzy comparison, using a distance metric, between a selected set of planetary properties of a planet and Earth. ("What kind of life?")

Life begins when geochemistry becomes so complex that it is labeled biochemistry. At that point, it effects a metabolism that allows the process of life to be continuous.

During metabolism, waste products are given off. Some of them are gaseous and rise into the atmosphere. On earth, for example, early single-cell life produced massive amounts of waste oxygen that rose into the atmosphere and would have been easily detectable by aliens.

Uh, NO. You can't be serious.

Hey HEY!! Respect!

Maybe that Atari 2600 pixalated universe is THE reality.

Now let's all preemptively bow before our new Alien Overlords. (They can see us smirking)

It is.

And of course there's no way to prove Science Fiction. Doesn't matter to True Believers.

I will like, "Based on A, B and C evidence, there is a 95% chance there is life on Planet F." frick all that shite. They have been so wrong about planets in our own solar system. I have zero faith they will be accurate about what's happening 40 light years away.

Hear ya.

Not only that -- IF all this were real, they can't bother to even set up a Live-Feed camera to record either Earth OR The Moon. (Antarctica would be nice.)

Blows the mind.

Good lord. Doesn’t surprise me that you didn’t take the time to read anything before reacting this way. NASA did not release these. A Redditor took raw data and made this picture.

Yeah, I read the cartoon description of the Atari 2600 "image" from the amateur on Reddit that EVERYONE IS EXCITED ABOUT!!

It doesn't change the post or ridicule of the entire NASA gaslight operation.
