I think that's fair. It doesn't matter if they want to sport an M badge when it's not an M car. But I think it waters-down the brand appeal or prestige. For whatever that's worth.

I think most don't try comparing an A4 S-line to an S4, for example. I kind of see where you'e coming from, but enthusiasts are the kind of people that known the difference.

Now, Mb using AMG on the "lower" end versions is a bit disingenuous though. At least BMW and Audi don't use the same naming. Lexus is pretty close with the GS F compared the the GS350 F Sport naming.

I think Ford Mustang invented this trend but I could be wrong.

I have my doubts, it will share BMW's Z4 I-6 TT engine and chassis

Same. They're on the right track with the TT I6, but man I hope it doesn't end up being a miata with more power. That Z4 chassis is concerning.

Tada specifically said in multiple interviews that the car is more Japanese than BMW. The primary reason for the joint venture was Toyota wanted an I-6 and well they just don't make them anymore.

I have no worries about the chassis, it's the BMW engine /trans. BMWs bread and butter is the I6, silky smooth but overbuilt and longevity is not thier forte.

N54?

It's no 2JZ, but then nothing is.

What's wrong with broadening your appeal by offering lower priced alternatives?

It dilutes the appeal of luxury. You can argue that luxury is stupid (and a lot of times I'd agree with you), I'm just answering your question.

I will wind up in the TT Supra MKV though. And before you make fun of that car, it has B58 parts.

B58 is not Twin Turbo.

M-Sport packages, Audi's S-line, and this thing that AMG is doing now putting their name in the model with a smaller designation is nothing new.

No one confuses them for their true performance models.

and lol at the idea that the 430i is base model when 418i and 420d exist.
