Right..They aren't at work

Not for the summer months, no. They get paid for 182 days.
If you think getting a check = getting paid then figure your salary on 182 days, divide it by 12 and take the summer off too.
Correct, we do not get paid during the summer or for holidays. We are paid for 182 days of work that happen to be between the first week of August and the 3rd/4th week of May. If we choose, we can hold out money each pay period to go into a summer fund. Some do; some do not. I do. This is the case for most school districts across the nation. Some districts force teachers to do this; Ebr does not.

they'll stop whining as soon as they start banging students again.

I've been at the school 4 days a week for workouts anyway. I'm ready to get back in the room dropping knowledge. I think you let dumb elementary school and lazy high school teachers ruin it for the rest.

Well...this thread backfired I'd say.

I really am beginning to hate teachers
You're breaking my heart. As a teacher, I have literally dozens of teachers as Facebook friends. As of today, not one single one has posted anything relative to whining about going back. I see teacher-hating threads on here all the time, and I'm convinced you either fabricate or exaggerate greatly your claims to bring on more hate. As for not lasting five minutes at a real job, you're delusional.

someone in high school somehow obtained our school's payroll
the lowest paid teacher, a 25 year old Princeton grad, was making 6 figures...now, those teachers were worth it, and they were all very educated and by nature of the school, their job never stopped.
I bring this up because I remember that same teacher on the bottom, mr. hatfield you da man, lamenting that summer was upon us
real teachers hate summer. Public school teachers 1. hate kids, 2. hate teaching, and 3. aren't really qualified to teach.

What most get at here is I think I could follow a curriculum and teach a class in a pinch. I know 99.9% of teachers couldn't do my job. It's involves abstract thinking sometimes and years of experience.
I could teach any math class starting tomorrow. That is a fact.

way to lump them all in one group dumbass
public school teachers require more certifications that private schools typically do
i'm not trying to say that it makes them better teachers....but technically they are MORE qualified

No disrespect intended, but you do realize that there is much more to it than knowing the material, right? I'm also not going to engage this thread anymore, because the anti-teacher opinions are cemented, if completely unfounded.

none of them realize this
if they know the material, they are certain they can transmit that knowledge....even though teachers are technically trained to do so

Hell I do all 3 of these for free.

You're ignorant! I would love to see someone like you in the classroom for a day... You would never survive! Get a life and worry about yourself!!!

Tons of fail in this thread. People living in south Louisiana have a skewed opinion of public schools.
I teach in a Texas public school. I teach a specialized subject, which means for the most part my students want to be in my class. I couldn't imagine teaching a core subject.
I'd be willing to say that teachers can last 5 minutes in a 'real' job more often than 'regular' people lasting 5 minutes in a teaching job.
There's many perks to teaching. It's a shame it has a bad reputation on here. As for summer nearing an end...it doesn't bother me.

We don't have substitutes at my job, but the ones that show up at my kids school seem to be just "regular" people

don't know the current quals necessary to sub in LA, but years ago, all that was needed was a four year degree, the pay however, wasn't even enough to buy lunch
Posted on 7/15/14 at 4:01 pm to 777Tiger
subs are becoming scarce and qualifications have nothing to do with it, they can't deal with the behavior and usually walk after not having administrative support...

Since I started with the company I work for I have successfully trained atleast 25 people in 2 different roles. Is this not teaching. I have to find a way to get them to understand it. sure may not be 30 kids at once but its still passing along knowledge.
