Yeah, but how far does the unobservable part go after that?...

I've had this very conversation with friends for years. I'm not saying a deity exists or not, but humans are some arrogant assholes with being sure about so much when we can't even figure out small shite like the coronavirus origin. But sure, we're positive that no God exists or that one does. It's comical.

Existing from nothing or being created by something should blow people's mind, either way.

And I'll be back again, and again, and again, and again....

To whom?

In the grand scheme of things in the universe? No, we won’t. I’m okay with that.

To the universe I may only be one person, but to one person I may be the universe.

ya but some calls are pure conjecture and unknowable, whereas the size of the observable universe has actual research, data and tested theory. I doubt we are 100% accurate but I also don't think this is just pulled out of thin air as some other theory is.

I love that we think we know this when we've been observing only a few hundred light years of distance at most.

How is that possible? Isn’t the universe < 14 billion years old? Wouldn’t observable universe only be able to expand < 14 billion light years in any one direction?

Check out Stephen Wolfram's research into Cellular Automata - he shows that certain basic rules can give rise to extremely complex structures. I am very much unsure of if I believe in a creator / higher power or not, or just the power of infinity to stumble into the right preconditions to give rise to the universe, but his research is pretty interesting to look into on its own.

Now take that camera and zoom in, and keep zooming until you get to a family eating dinner with each other. All of the sudden life has a lot of importance, as you realize every person at that table has their own fears, hopes, dreams, memories, and emotions. Each person is racing towards death and has no idea what will happen afterwards.

It’s cool to perceive life through a nihilistic lens, but it’s pretty short sighted to get stuck there and not appreciate the importance in the small things.

I had a nihilistic world view when I was like 16 and watched Rick and Morty and spent my weekends taking LSD, but it’s something that any intelligent person should eventually grow out of.
