Is Cortana Mall still standing? I guess that qualifies. I’d love to go into an abandoned mall.

It was still open until about 6-8 months ago. Someone has been buying all of the properties so they finally closed it. Supposedly it's going to be torn down for an Amazon distribution center.

I absolutely get where you’re coming from. All my life, I’ve had an affinity for out of the way places. Quiet places, forgotten places, places of glory long past. I love the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere, a feeing which actually doesn’t require a vast nothingness but does require few people in the immediate vicinity. Due to family and work etc I don’t get to travel much but my dream trip is a solo road trip through the west and Midwest, avoiding interstates and taking only scenic routes.

Why not go further down the rabbit hole and visit Bon Marche (I have no idea what it is now).

Bon Marche was turned into a business park like 15-20 years ago. It hasn't been as successful as they'd hoped. It still backs up to Mall City. I used to work in there.

I think my last purchase in Bon Marche was U2 - The Unforgettable Fire cassette.

The movie theater was still open when I was in HS. It's an Eatel data center now.

Crazy. I know of a few cities that have an underground of that style, where streets were built up. Seattle did that after a fire. I can’t imagine living in those conditions, especially factoring in a lack of light.

An abandoned mall will definitely give you that eerie feeling. I walked around the Belle Promenade mall shortly before it closed down, sometime on the late 90s I guess. It was a bustling mall in the 80s. When I walked through there, there was just a couple stores clinging to life. Except for the workers, I don’t recall seeing anyone else. Just a huge empty mall, with mall music playing and everything except people.

I didn’t grow up in Baton Rouge, only spent my years there as a student. I tried to get to know the town away from the university as best I could. Bon Marche, to me, was a place that was big on this board and nothing more.

We had our own dead mall here. It survived for about 20 years with limited anchor stores. They finally locked the doors on it a few months ago. What kind of idiots build two shopping malls within 3 blocks?

Not sure what years you were here but Bon Marche was still a nice mall when I was a kid. Cortana being built in the late 70s slowly killed it.

I was in BR from 06-10. I took a drive there last month for Spring Break with the sole intention of exploring once again and seeing old friends. That was the night of the last LSU game of the year. Panic set in and we drove home early.

I think Central school district is building a school at the old Greenwell Springs hospital site.

I lived right near the Magnolia Bridge/Greenwell Springs intersection from middle through high school. The family that owned the land evicted us so they could put it up for sale, but it is nothing but trees to this day. The family could never agree on anything. It sucks because my parents, although poor, took care of the property.

They recently added on to the old high school so I guess not any time soon.

They are pretty landlocked where they are now though.

I loved hitting up the old ghost towns in Colorado. My first experience was at Tomboy above Telluride. I would ride out to Crystal Mill pretty regular.
