I felt that way about my teleportation system until I didn't.

How many lives where saved by a car or ambulance and the ability to get someone to medical care quicker in an emergency and over a long distance for urgent or maintenance care?

A good point but you wouldn't want to count the ones from auto accidents for obvious reasons.

Everything is a trade-off. Cars have been a huge net positive.

As long as we have all been alive, cars have been a big part of our life. We use them every day to get where we need to go. We probably don’t think much about them much except when we’re in the market to buy a new one.

Is this similar to “Nobody ever died while leaping from a tall building”?

What if he was going to a planet that has more gravity than Earth.

My question today is, or the paradox is, while cars have changed our life, motor vehicle accidents have also claimed millions of lives all around the world since the invention.

I have thought about this before. At one time the USA had 50,000+ deaths per year in cars. This was pre-1970. We made some decisions about safety and got that down into the 20's, and then back up to the low 30's. We seem to be okay with that. It's mosty drinking, speeding, and distracted (texting) driving.

In other words, as as society, we are totally kewl with 30,000 deaths (basically all of LSU or Ole Miss) dying every year due to stupid and fixable problems like "dont drink and drive" or "dont text and drive".

Contrast that with guns. Guns, like orange man, are bad. There are something like 50,000 gun deaths per year, but only half are murder (the others are suicide). Of those murders, something like 3/4 involve a prior felon. So now we're down to 5-6000 deaths per year are gun murders. But we want to ban guns completely and think the murderers will comply.

So to recap:
30,000 deaths per year by ordinary folks texting, speeding, and boozing - totally fine.

6,000 deaths per year by predatory gun murder and we need to ban guns and do something or the world will end. Also assumes the murderers will comply.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOkayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy....
