Holy shite that has to be a rough ride. They should have been able to start moving as soon as they disconnected at a few KPH but it probably got too rough to pull the BOP through the splash zone.
1000’ of riser in hurricane conditions and throw in 4 knot loop currents

I work on platform and it was completely evacuated Friday.
But did it break loose, damnit?

If there is a drill ship stuck in the storm, there is a 100% chance no one is posting on Facebook about it. The satellites are spotty in a rainstorm, a cat 4 and the ship moving means there is very likely zero connectivity for them except for emergency radio type stuff.
I’m not arguing with you and I agree it’s highly unlikely anyone onboard would be on a message board posting shite. But i do get 5 bars full service out there when we fish Olympus/Mars, so it’s possible to have a signal. Not sure how the storm would effect that though

Gotcha. Well all we can do at this point is hope the reports are false and wait and see once this thing passes.

Actually, Olympus is Mars B.

A drill ship likely won’t be close enough to shore to get a cell phone tower signal. Once they disconnect and start pulling riser, they are going deeper not towards shore.
It’s possible it got caught in the storm. The Enterprise got caught once; the captain thought he was smarter than everyone else and went West instead of going East like every other rig. He was known as “Captain Wrong Way Ed” for a very long time.
That was over a decade ago. There’s so many processes/procedures in place it would take a colossal f*** up for one to get stuck in a storm, especially since these are the “big boy” companies with drill ships in gom. Not to say it can’t happen, but as always, take what you read on the internet with a grain of salt (including this post).

I was getting cell service on the Proteus two days ago in the Appomattox field its possible..
Who ever it is at shell or the OIM that waited till the last minute to start pulling riser needs to be held responsible for this.
Hearing they lost 1000 foot of riser and LMPR

Yeah they might have cell service from a nearby platform that has signals. Doubtful but possible.
Feel sick for the guys on the globetrotter if this is true. That ride would be rough and if memory is correct that a smaller than normal drillship.

I’m on a different drill ship right now, not NGT2 but I have friends on it. They are in rough shape. The highest wave the rig recorded was huge. (80’) The rig is severely damaged and there are people injured but from what I’m hearing it’s not serious injuries. At one point the rig lost a thruster and was pushed sideways. It rolled hard to one side and they thought it was gonna roll over but it managed to right itself.
