I was reading that she was back on patrol when she was killed, which seemed pretty odd for a 51-year-old female cop to be on the streets. They all seem to be admin by that age.

Cops weren’t paid well at all. Needed that extra duty to survive. My dad used to work the Exxon gate too on top of the Walmart gig.

Not sure. He retired a few years ago working OT the whole way. And he still needs supplemental income in retirement. And people wonder why we are running out of applicants between being underpaid, the political climate, and the real dangers of something as simple as standing guard at a Walmart at 9 pm.

starting pay in BR is like 15 something a hr, in Bryan TX starting pay is like 24 then after the first year its 26......BR is more than double the size of Bryan..i probably know your old man

I think most places shite on BRPD pay. If you are set on becoming a BR cop, the State Troopers is the way to go. LSUPD is also pretty damn good in regards to the funding they receive and the easy arse overtime, but their base pay is similar to BRPD.

Sadly, had the perp not shot her, he may have only gotten a citation. Lsu kids used to take bs from there all the time. The ones I knew got "misedemeanor citations".
Melancon's shooting was pretty similar. Perp probably wouldn't have gotten any time if he just let himself be arrested.
I think this stopped no-knock warrants in Baton Rouge, at least for awhile. It's sad that Melancon was murdered, but that practice is way too dangerous.

I came here to tell that story. I worked at that Walmart. I knew all the officers that worked detail there. I had worked at the Monroe Walmart and transferred to Perkins when we moved to Baton Rouge.
My Walmart career ended shortly after Miss Vicki got killed.

Not sure if you're talking about the same incident, but another cop was killed in that parking lot when he pulled over a drunk driver and the guy shot the cop and ran. All I remember was that it was a black truck and took them a few days, but they found the guy and arrested him.

He was not killed but was severely injured.. career ending for him.
